For Camaro buyers in 1969, that 427 CI possibility finally became a reality thanks to Chevrolet COPO process, which was a run-around for building special vehicles. COPO Camaros like the car offered here have since become among the most desirable releases in the first-generation series. Moreover, this beautiful vehicle, originally sold new at the notable Reedman Chevrolet franchise in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, has benefited from an all-inclusive rotisserie refreshing completed in 2017. Many of these special COPO 9561 vehicles spent their existence on the drag strip, and to bring one back to its as-built condition requires an intense understanding of its details and a willingness to locate the correct components. This car has the MN-suffix block that was the basis for the L72 427/425 HP V-8 engine. It is equipped with a Winters aluminum intake, 4-barrel carburetor, ZL2-design air-cleaner and dual exhaust. Date-code-correct components were used throughout, including the starter, bellhousing, fan blade, alternator and exhaust manifolds. The engine is backed by a heavy-duty Muncie 4-speed transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with 4.10 Positraction gear. Built on the Norwood assembly line with the X44 code, COPOs were not SS models but performance super cars. This example has power brakes with front discs, the special ducted hood and is painted in Fathom Green with a matched green bucket-seat interior. Inside is the floor-mounted Hurst shifter, seat belts, in-dash tachometer and AM radio. Like many such cars, wheels were of minimal importance due to day-two replacements, and this car has the correct-but-narrow painted XT steel wheels and dog-dish hubcaps with F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires. Already Camaro Hi-Performance Certified, this spectacular COPO 9561 package showcases the 1969 Camaro body lines well, with the bulging hood and dual exhaust outlets telling the truth about its L72 powerplant.
