Without question, an important turning point for Corvette came about in the sports car scene when the 2nd generation C2 was introduced in 1963. A revised chassis brought about a 4-wheel independent suspension, and as the years progressed; larger wheels were introduced, 4-wheel disc brakes, and larger big block motors! Amenities like power steering, air conditioning, and leather seats didn't hurt sales either enticing more buyers ready to park one in their garage! These cars are arguably the most coveted of Corvettes amongst collectors worldwide!
We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. This very well documented example is finished in Rally Red (originally Nassau Blue) over Black Vinyl interior! All records and ownership documentation will be provided to the next owner. Options include numbers matching L79- 327ci/350 horsepower V8 mated to the wide ratio Muncie 4-speed transmission, and 3.55 Posi-Traction rear end! All major components remain date code correct and numbers matching! Other features include rare factory air conditioning, aluminum knock-off wheels, power steering, Delco AM/FM radio with power antenna, auxiliary hardtop, rubber floor mats, faux wood steering wheel, retractable seatbelts, all Soft-Ray tinted glass, and Goodyear 1" radial whitewall tires.
It was last repainted sometime in mid-1980's while in Stone Mountain, Georgia, then sold to a local physician here in St. Louis with 51,211 miles on the odometer. He would commission a general engine overhaul in 1988 at 53,471 miles by Ray's Corvette & Cars with the addition of power steering installed. This included magnafluxing & reconditioning the block & heads, new piston rings, new 350hp camshaft, complete bearing set, all new gaskets, new oil pump, double row timing chain, resurfaced flywheel, new clutch kit, hoses, filters, and fluids. He would later sell to another physician in 1990 located out west in Marina Del Ray, California. It would be cosmetically and mechanically maintained on an as-needed basis over the years, with a rebuild of the heads with new lifters & springs in September 1990 by Chris Reade's Automotive, along with a new fuel pump.
Sticking with the doctor owned theme, another physician here is the St. Louis area would come to own the car in August 1993, with 59,571 miles showing on the odometer. Although, he would maintain possession for the next 27 years! Now retired and downsizing from his accommodating home with plenty of garage space to an easier lifestyle, the St. Louis Car Museum would be lucky to become the new caretakers! Most recently in December 2020, our service department replaced the brake calipers & new pads, bleed the entire system, installed an all new exhaust system, reconditioned the air conditioning system with new compressor with R134a update & dash blower assembly; replaced all engine fluids/filters, rebuilt the carburetor, fitted it with new spark plugs, reset the distributor timing & tuned for optimum performance, installed a new fuel gauge with sending unit; along with new sway bar links & bushings to tighten up the front end.
Our car does showcase some typical paint patina from age, but it wore a traditional Wolf nose bra for much of the former owner's driving enjoyment to protect the front fascia. What minimal imperfections it does possess does not steal away from an overall very straight, no hit body! It runs and drives excellently and was been carefully maintained over the years, receiving a new Delco battery in June 2018, and all new shocks & all brake hoses in June 2019. Always garage kept under a storage cover, and never driven in inclement weather, it makes for an excellent driver investment! It will come with an owner's manual and service records dating back to 1988. This is a terrific opportunity to acquire a beautiful, number's matching Corvette in a very popular color combination! We encourage all prospective buyers to visit our showroom to see this car in person! And, as always, you are welcome to call with any questions! Thanks for looking!
