Description of 1973 Chevrolet Nova |
1973 Nova Custom Hatchback (originally from California) - $13. 00 AS IS. MUSCLE CAR PROJECT ENTHUSIASTS - Everything you need is here! Just a good home and a little TLC required. Why am I selling? Because. after 32 years. I am no longer able to provide the care this wonderful car needs. and it deserves a better home. Why only $13. 00? ONE REPAIR NEEDED - A few weeks ago. on a demo drive for a potential buyer. I somehow managed to bend an exhaust valve! Because this repair will cost upwards of $3. 00. I lowered my original asking price by $4. 00. Please review the engine specs below - you will see this is a worthy salvage. Why "Unique"? Even though this 400hp engine can run extremely well on gasoline. it was. in fact. purpose-built from the ground up for PROPANE. making it one of the very few ("green") environmentally friendly muscle cars on the planet. I ran this car smoothly on propane for over a decade with it's original 350 before deciding to upgrade it to a 383 Stroker. Great performer. and the rumble from this new cammed-up motor is a head-turner (It cost me over $12. 00. and it's barely broken in). The original gasoline fuel lines remain intact. so a switch back to gas would not be difficult. It's also rare to find good examples of hatchbacks now. This one is in excellent condition with internally applied anti-rust treatments and well maintained doors and hinges. The body and frame are straight. It has never been in a major accident. only a few small fender-benders that were easily repaired. I have owned the car since 1983 and have every scrap of documentation. every receipt. and even many photo-documents of every service and modification this car has undergone since 1983. This car has never been tracked or abused in any way. Description/Specifications: - New 383 Stroker motor rated at 400 hp (has not yet been dyno'd) purpose-built for high performance propane. - 10. 25/1 comp. Keith Black hypereutectic aluminum pistons / 288 dur. racing cam. Roller rockers and lifters. etc. Complete engine specs available upon request. - MSD ignition system - Custom fabricated aluminum reverse-induction ram-air system (NASCAR style) - Oversize (4 row) radiator - Extensive custom interior restoration including: Front and back seats of black-core leather with tweed center panels (Cool in the summer and warm in the winter!); carpets; headliner; paneling - Fold down back seats provide tons of cargo space (Enjoy camping? I will include a custom-fit foam mattress you can sleep on in the back of the car!) - New 15" American Racing 'Baja' alloy wheels - New 15" tires all around: 205/60 front and 225/60 rear. Rear wheel wells were professionally modified for clearance - New Bilstein shocks - New 3. 23 posi rear end. axle. and aluminum differential cover - Solid shift kit-enhanced '3onthetree' TH350 transmission with beefed-up drive train - Front end drop springs for that perfect stance - Dual side 'racing' mirrors / Halogen headlights - Triple gauge instrument cluster (oil press / oil temp / water temp) mounted under dash. plus tach on deck - AM/FM/CD player with removable face (could use replacement speakers and fresh wiring) - Custom dual aluminum exhaust system with crossover and dual-chamber Flowmasters. GREAT sound! - Rear hatch recently restored and new seal installed - Professionally installed retractable shoulder harness seat belts (car came with just lap belts) - Keyless alarm and lock system - Professionally Installed / Government inspected & certified propane system conversion. Custom installed dual tank system replaces conventional gas tank. SAFER THAN GASOLINE (read up). Approximately 26 gallons to fill. I used to get about 250 miles when it was a 350 (approx. 11 - 12 mpg). but this new motor hasn't been run enough to get a mileage estimate. REMEMBER! Propane costs less than gas (with no luxury tax for automobile usage). and the price doesn't fluctuate nearly as much as gas. so it's an interesting cost savings. NOTE: original gasoline fuel lines remain intact. Flaws/Damage: - Exhaust valve in #3 was recently bent during a demo run. Cause unknown. Will require engine pull and a machinist/mechanic repair work. One estimate for time and materials looked to be around $3000. but I'm sure it could be done cheaper. Other than that. the rest is purely cosmetic. - Recent small (2"?) tear in passenger side front seat upholstery. - Carpet on front passenger side has recent water leak and mold damage. Happened during storage. Cause uncertain. Fortunately. carpet is easy and cheap to replace. - Headliner is showing some signs of storage moisture damage. Leaves dimples when touched. Not sure of repair/replacement cost. - Some minor surface paint separation in roof gutters above the side windows. Some checking of paint in temple flex area of q-panels. Some early rust bubbling around receiving edge of hatch opening - not on the hatch itself. NOTE: Recently underwent body and paint work to completely remove and replace (with fresh metal) the bottom third of one door. Millen Autobody in Redmond has been my shop of choice for all body and paint work over the past decade. and they have always done top-notch work and matched the paint beautifully. Feel free to contact owner Neil Millen there for a "second opinion" about this car. Most of this car is 42 years old. and as such. one can expect some "personality" quirks and oddities. but nothing serious I wouldn't disclose. Fortunately. about three quarters of this car can be rebuilt from the ground up with factory and after-market parts from numerous sources. "Classic Industries" for example carries almost everything you need to build an entirely new Nova. Thanks for your interest! |
