Description of 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

This car is a very solid. reliable driver. I've owned it for more than 15 years and have replaced the carburetor (Holley 625CFM). power steering pump. steering box. brake master and power booster. brake lines. pads. shoes. nbsp; all suspension bushings. front and rear shocks. resleeved the original 4 piston front calipers. and added a factory correct optional tilt steering column in place of the standard unit. The good: an original california black plate car. body is straight and rust free. paint is about 5 years old and still looks fresh. original equipment still on the car includes heavy duty Harrison radiator. 12 bolt Dana rear. Turbo 400 trans. large sway bars front and rear. 4 piston caliper front disc brakes. 396/325HP big block engine (CE stamped block). the engine is strong. starts quickly hot or cold. idles smoothly. doesn't burn oil. and will light up the tires without even trying. The bad: needs an interior and underhood detailing. headliner is missing (metal ribs still there). and all interior components show wear consistent with unrestored 48 year old equipment. originally a factory A/C car. but compressor. brackets. and hoses are all missing. chrome valve covers and air cleaner have surface rust. mileage is most likely greater than odometer reading. The trim plate code confirms this was an original big block car built in Fremont. CA. It's time for a new owner to take over and pick up where I've left off - this car is definitely a worthwhile investment that can be driven as is. fully restored. or both. I've discovered that there is a good chance the engine IS. in fact. the original block. According to a website devoted to decoding Chevy big block engine numbers. the codes stamped on the block are consistent with a 396/325HP engine produced on April 14. 1967. It is not necessarily true that other numbers appearing on the block must match the VIN for vehicles produced in early 1967. When I bought it. I was not so concerned with matching numbers as some people may have been -- I didn't even look at them until much later. It was evident to me at the time that this car was "the real deal".
