Seatbelts SELLER REMARKS Every 1968 Camaro is desirable. but it only takes four letters to go from great to amazing. RS (Rally Sport) and SS (Super Sport) are two of the most sought-after designations. and this coupe has them both. Plus some extra goodies. This is by far one of our favorite hardtop Camaros in our showroom today! This Camaro was the king of the streets when it left the factory. and not much has changed in nearly half a century. A hallmark of the RS package is the blacked-out grille that hides the headlights behind vacuum activated doors. More of this playfully sinister darkness is seen in the blacked-out rear panel and optional black vinyl roof. These dark elements are balanced out nicely by the factory-correct shade of Le Mans Blue. providing a gorgeous color scheme. Plus. this one has the attractive triple Ivory Sport Striping. which also coordinates well with the color of the SS badges. These bright hues and multi-panel stripes are not only cool. but they also help prove just how straight the body is on this RS/SS. Rally wheels are a must-have on a coupe like this. and these look particularly aggressive thanks to an upgrade to the larger 15-inch size from the Z28 package. Inside. one of the first things you'll notice is that every bit of black vinyl is in near pristine condition. The low-back bucket seats stay below the doorline to give the car a great profile. But these kinds of details are often missed because everyone's attention always gravitates to the center console with the original horseshoe shifter. For the driver. this is a cool piece to hold even if you're not trying to bang your own way through the three-speed automatic. But you can take that kind of control because there is an aftermarket Sunpro tachometer mounted on the top of the steering column. Dials inserted above the radio for the oil pressure and water temperature supplement the tach to provide vital info. 1968 was the first year for the Astro Ventilation system for vent/heat/defrost. This not only helped get more fresh air into the car. but it also eliminated the need for vent windows as seen in the earlier 1967 model. This means you can roll everything down for that cool pillarless look that will make you never want to put the windows up again. In fact. this classic coupe still has its optional AM/FM radio. but you'll be too occupied with the wind in your hair and listening to a very special soundtrack coming from the dual exhaust. Open the hood and you'll see wedged in the engine bay the largest engine Chevy would fit into these Camaros. This is after all a Super Sport. with the desirable 396 big block V8 motor. This one is ready to take to the local car shows because you don't have worry about if the previous owners were as mindful as you are. This is a period correct big block that is very impressive when you pop the hood. In fact. this Camaro had a servicing earlier this year that included the motor. and a new Edelbrock 850 CFM carburetor. All of this power is managed by a stout Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission before being sent to the SS-correct 12-bolt rear end. While this mighty beast knows how to roar. it also has been rebuilt for more reliable use. Another part of the recent servicing included switching the front drum brakes to new discs. and adding heat-dispersing fins to the rear drums. The suspension was also overhauled. including Gabriel shocks at all wheels (you see full details of the improvements in the included documentation). Plus. this is a power steering car with Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires for modern traction behind the vintage appearance. So this coupe is beautiful. fast. and effortless. It's an RS/SS Camaro that has all the right options. Plus. plenty of money has been recently invested make sure this big block is still the meanest car on the streets.
