Description of 1979 Chevrolet Corvette |
Move to Michigan from Washington makes me have to sell my long-time cruise mobile.....up for auction is a used '79 Corvette in custom Bumblebee paint scheme. As much as I'd love to take it Michigan isn't exactly "rust-free" and car-friendly so I'd rather it stay in a somewhat warmer nice climate! This car was a daily driver of about 5 miles to work and back for me for several months but now is a great "weekend cruise" machine. I've put quite a bit of work into it but never quite got to the point where I could get it at 100% "show quality" condition. Here's the info about the car:The Good:This 'Vette runs like a champ. The Bumblebee paint is a real head-turner and I can't go anywhere in this car without at least two or three gearheads walking up to talk to me and offer to buy it. The engine/trans aren't matching #s but were torn down and rebuilt completely before I bought the car and with a custom designed and built cam on it the car sounds amazing. Shifts clean drives smooth a great car to wheel around in. I recently got the front suspension inspected/repaired and it's got brand new custom wheels on it -- the front brake calipers were replaced wheel spacers removed for a smoother ride. The car also recently had brand new exhaust placed from the catalytic converters back to tailpipes -- it passed emissions in New Mexico (which is tough) so it should pass emissions should you be in a state that requires it. New window assemblies and motors were put in it a while back so you don't get that "stuck window" issue that a lot of classic cars get! Seats are in good shape but needs new carpet new center console. I was planning on getting the interior re-done in black to match the paint but paying for college forced me to prioritize other things. It is a Canadian car so the speedo needs a new 140MPH face with MPH on the outside which is an easy enough replacement. The car needs a new speedo cable/gears as well as the speedo currently registers around 5-10MPH slow. The wiring for the wiper blades needs traced and a short needs fixed -- might be just the switch as you have to 'jiggle' the switch to get them to move (generally I don't drive it in the rain so it hasn't been a problem). The rear defrost needs re-connected but wiring is in place. The car is missing the original radio. The A/C needs completely re-done likely the compressor needs replaced. Since Washington never gets that hot and I could just take the T-tops off I didn't have it high on the list of things to do!Reverse lights are currently not functioning. Bulbs are good so it's a wiring issue which will need to be traced. The fuel filter vibrates loose and leaks so it will need replaced which is an incredibly easy thing to do; although the fuel lines are solid one of the first things I was going to do was get them completely replaced since they're the original lines. The master cylinder on the brakes is acceptable but much like the fuel lines could be replaced. The car does need a paint touch-up in a few places although the paint is solid overall. See pictures for the areas -- there's a crack in the fiberglass on the hood and the clearcoat is starting to wear in spots.Overall:This is a great car that has been an absolute blast to own. I've put a lot of the hardest work into it to get it running great now it just needs those final touches from a caring owner to get the interior and minor paint issues taken care of to get to a 100% show-stopping eye-catching cruise beast! I'm really sad to see it go but with a 2000+ mile move coming up it's just something that has to go to a new owner before I make the jump.Car is sold as-is with no warranty. I have done my best to describe the condition of the car but be aware this is a classic car and as such will require work and care to maintain and keep at a high quality. On Jun-04-15 at 20:12:36 PDT seller added the following information: In the interest of full disclosure about the vehicle I wanted to add that I thought I had best described the vehicle as I could at the time. However the vehicle has only been driven once every 2 weeks for a couple of months now and we had some particularly bad rainstorms. After looking underneath the vehicle I realized that I had described the exhaust incorrectly -- it had new catalytic converters put on it and new tailpipes but the mufflers and original exhaust remained. As such there is rust on the muffler and it will likely need replaced. Everything else described about the car is spot-on however. I apologize for initially listing this incorrectly and have lowered the reserve price accordingly to compensate for the potentially necessary replacement. Rest assured the car does still run perfectly fine and the exhaust does not appear to be leaking or anything. It is just an original exhaust system (with new catalytic converters and tips). I can provide pictures if necessary and I completely understand if some bids get retracted because of this I just certainly didn't want anyone purchasing the car with the wrong impression. If you have any questions about this Vette please feel free to ask me before you buy I don't want any surprises coming to a buyer upon pickup/transfer of the vehicle.
