Description of 1974 Chevrolet Corvette

1974 Corvette Stingray with 454 Big Block 4-Speed T-Tops & Air Conditioning Low miles since frame off restoration

Most of the Detroit auto manufacturers over the years used an automotive formula combination that has been quite successful. The idea of a manufacturer taking their smallest model car and putting in the engine from their largest car certainly is not new. In the 1930s many manufacturers started this trend and one of the early well-known matches was Buick taking their big Roadmaster engine and putting into the Buick Special body to come up with a car come up with their car called the Century. Of course the reason the car was called the Century was that it could do a 100 mph – very fast for the mid 1930s. Let us not forget that Pontiac came up with the same style formula in the early sixties when they took the compact Pontiac Tempest and dropped in the big Pontiac engine to come up with the Pontiac GTO.

So it was with Corvettes they dropped in one of the biggest blocks ever and a factory Corvette 454. It was a very powerful engine in a relatively light body and that brings us to the car in the eBay auction.

The 1974 Corvette in this auction was born a factory 454 and 4-speed. Later in its life the block was replaced with another 454. The seller tells us that it is still an originally born 454. This car comes fully equipped with T-Tops Power Steering Power Brakes Power Windows and get this working factory air conditioning blowing cold. The engine was massaged a little with a Holley carburetor electronic ignition and a Crane cam just so it could breathe well with all of these upgrades it has ceramic coated Hooker Headers. The tires are a little larger in the back just the way you would want it.

In the 1980s the owner decided to do a frame off restoration and paint the car back to its original factory yellow color.

While we apologize for the quality of the photos they were taken by the owner and he is the first to admit that he is not the greatest photographer in the world. As you might imagine the owner is getting up in years and has decided to let his “baby” go to a new caretaker who he hopes will give it the same fine love and care that it received during his stewardship.

Seller has provided the following details for this 1974 Corvette.

We have all seen the 1967 big block Corvettes increase; we have even seen the 1968 & 1969 big blocks increase significantly in value. The price increases have not yet reached the 454 Corvettes but surely will. The time to get on the skyrocketing prices on the 454s is before they start to skyrocket. Besides that it is one heck of a car and a good 454s has become very scarce. This Corvette is better then a good 1974 as it did have a full restoration and since that time has been highly cared for both in storage and on the road.

Here at MissChiTown we love the yellow for this particular year. This car is located in the sunny south and has never seen bad weather top or bottom. Still plenty of time to have a great summer and enjoy the pride of ownership of a great collectible.
