Description of 1950 Chrysler Imperial |
This is a 1950 Chrysler Imperial. This is one of the last vehicles I am selling that I have been collecting. I've have owned this car for a little over three years and has been stored inside. The vehicle was purchased from a person in the state of Washington in pretty much the condition that it is now. The previous owner had done a decent restoration and I have not done much to it since it was purchased, ther than replace all fluids. The restoration seems to have replaced items like complete interior, aint, ubber seals, nd a few smaller items. The mileage is currently 74,730 and according to the previous owner its original. It currently runs on 6 volts and it starts right up. I have driven it up and down the localfreeways here in Southern California and it has plenty of power to keep up with traffic. The transmission is a Semi-Automatic. The clutch and transmission work without know issues. The brakes are in good working order and are still the original drum brake system. The car drives pretty smooth andstraight on the freeway. The head lights and tails lights are in good working order - including the interior light when the door is opened. The AM radio turns on and its sounds a little scratchy. I added seats belts for safety whenI first got. The belts are good quality and the bolts have re-enforcement underneath the floor pan. The interior is in very good shape - the carpet, eats and head liner have no visible damage. The exterior paint will shine up with a good polish - it has one main scratch on the driver side fender (see photo) - it also has a few rust spots on the truck seal area - the paint has a few bubblesprimarily underneath the rear window going towards the trunk area (see photo). The window seals seem to have been replaced and are in good shape (rearpassenger window has a small crack (see photo). All four doors and trunk close properly. Hood stays open with springs. The explanation of a Semi-Automatic can be found in google by entering - Presto-Matic or see below The M6Presto-Maticwas aChrysler Corporationtransmissionproduced from 1946–1953. It was a specialmanual transmissionwith atorque converterorfluid coupling. Although it had just two forward gears, n electricoverdriveunit was attached and useful in either gear for a total of four forward speeds. The driver would use the clutch pedal any time when selecting low, igh, r reverse gear. Once underway, he accelerator could be eased and the car would engage the overdrive. With theFluid Drivecoupling, he car could be brought to a halt in gear without releasing the clutch and would creep like an automatic. The Presto-Matic name was only used onChrysler-brand cars.DeSotocalled the transmission theTip-Toe Shift, hileDodgeusedGyro-Matic,Fluid-Matic,Fluidtorque, rGyro-Torque. Chrysler and DeSoto sold the unit from 1946–1953, hile Dodge did not introduce it until 1948.Plymouthintroduced theirHy-Drivesemi-automatic in 1953, ut all were replaced by thePowerFliteautomatic in 1954 Overall the car appear to be very solid, he frame and body to not appear to have any rust, ther than the areas mentioned below. It is not a show car, ut with a good detail it show very nice.
