Description of 1983 Chrysler LeBaron |
Up for sale is something very special. It's a 1983 Chrysler LeBaron Executive Sedan. They only made 9 of these for 1983 and this one is quite a bit different than most... it has a leather interior which was never available with these cars! Maybe it's a prototype? Even the title and eBay say it's a 2 door which it's definitely not and I've checked all the VIN tags and they all match... leads me to believe the prototype thing even more. The story of this car from the previous owner is that it sat in a barn for seven years and then sat in HIS barn for another 8 years... and I got it back in October of 2014 and it's basically sat since then, getting started here and there and moved around. It has 131,425 miles on it which isn't much for the year. It's also very very well equipped for a car of it's time. 2.6L Mitsubishi 4 cylinder engine, 3 speed automatic transmission, electronic travel computer, electronic voice alert (yes, this car says "A door is ajar" and a bunch of other things), Quartz Lock Precision Series digital tune AM/FM radio with four speakers, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, power driver seat, power deck lid release, wire wheel covers with 14" wheels, full landau roof, adjustable foot rests for the rear seats, Mark Cross leather interior, and more stuff I'm probably forgetting. At one point in time the transmission was swapped out with one from a later 80's Dodge Caravan so it's the more reliable design than the earlier unit. The car has sat for a long time... and I think a lot of it was in a dirt floor barn. There is rust present under the vehicle. The K frame should be replaced because of it, one from a 1988 Dodge Daytona is included which also has the better control arm design. I believe the struts and shocks to be original so they should be changed. The brakes are also pretty old and should be gone through with new lines, hoses, and hardware. Driver seat has wear and a tear on the outer bolster. Also, for some reason this car was repainted white which is starting to really show it's age. The car itself was originally gold (which wasn't really one of the colors they were supposed to come in for the executive sedan) and would look really good going back to it's roots. The rear driver side window mechanism needs to be repaired so it can go up and down again. Missing trim piece of the driver door is in the trunk and comes with the car. Headliner is, of course, sagging like they all do when they're this old. No rips in it though. Exhaust needs help, the muffler was a crappy parts store one and fell apart so it got thrown in the garbage. Now, I know it sounds like a lot of work, but consider this... they made NINE of these for 1983 and 196 for 1984... and that was it. On top of that, this car wasn't supposed to exist with it's Mark Cross leather interior and with it's different interior pieces than the rest of the executive sedans. So it's really and truly a one of a kind vehicle. Once restored, you'll have something that nobody else has or will ever have. Plus, all the driveline, suspension, brakes, etc. are all standard K-car so the parts are cheap! Plus, even though it's more of a project at this point, it does run and drive! Engine actually runs pretty well and transmission shifts nicely. Doesn't overheat or really burn any oil. Starts up easily too. Goes down the road nicely. My main reason for selling it is that I haven't had the time or resources to give this car what it deserves. Life priorities are heading me in different directions and, like my Dodge 400 convertible I had to sell, this car doesn't get enough of my attention. So I'm offering it here with no reserve with just the stipulation that the car goes to a good home where someone will finish it and make it nice. There will be a $500 deposit due within 24 hours of the auction ending with Paypal. Rest needs to be cash or certified check. I will hold the vehicle for up to 14 days after receiving the check to make sure it clears. Vehicle is sold as is with zero warranty, obviously. It's 33 years old! Thank you so much for looking! Thanks! |
