Description of 1953 Chrysler Windsor DeLuxe |
|
You are bidding on a beautiful, one owner 1953 Chrysler Windsor DeLuxe – a very original, very correct, mechanically sound machine that is a well-cared for survivor from Chrysler Corporation’s most popular 1950’s full size luxury production line.
Purchased in the fall of 1952, this was my Grandmother’s car, who lived in Lenoir City, Tennessee and drove it to Knoxville and back, and around Loudon County to visit her children and grandchildren. She also drove it to church except when weather kept her from walking there on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. I can see her in that car, smiling as she pulled up in our driveway.
Always garaged, this spotless, rust-free Windsor DeLuxe was passed down to my Dad in 1984 after my Grandmother departed this earth. Dad had the car completely disassembled, stripped and repainted in its original black color, reupholstered, and all exterior brightwork was re-chromed. It shows 4,000 miles on the odometer. True mileage is unknown. It cranks up, sounds wonderful (when warmed up) and runs smoothly. For obvious reasons, my Dad took exceptional care of this car.
Major advantages:
Mechanically, the drivetrain and Fluid Drive transmission have been inspected, adjusted and are in good working order. It has its original Spitfire inline flathead 6 cylinder engine. It cranks right up and sounds smooth as silk, provided it is run on a regular basis. When run only intermittently, it is persnickety, and will need starting fluid and will sputter for a while before smoothing out. Carburetor either has no choke, or the choke doesn’t work, which produces chronic stalling until the engine is warm. Interior and exterior lighting and gauges do not function properly, but work intermittently.
Recent mechanical work includes:
Exterior-wise, you’ll find good paintwork and re-chromed brightwork. Passenger-side headlight bezel is off of the car but is included here (see trunk photo). Four outside body molding pieces – right and left rocker trim and right and left fender trim are missing. No collision damage that I ever heard of.
Interior-wise, you will find the re-upholstered original-style deep blue cloth seat covers with vinyl trim, including the original armrest cushions, and also the headliner, package tray and sunvisors. They have no rips or tears anywhere. All doors and windows open and close easily, as do the hood and trunk.
