Description of 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham Hardtop 4-Door |
Look like you have a million bucks for only a few thousand! Check out the definition of 70's luxury and style - this very large and luxurious 1978 Chrysler New Yorker is a definite head turner that people will notice wherever you go. This full sized, top of the line Chrysler is completely loaded for back in the day. The interior is done in bright red velour with plenty of room to stretch out. It has the huge 400 cubic inch "lean burn" V8 with a smooth-shifting 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine starts right up and purrs like a kitten. It has plenty of power to smoothly float down the freeway or cruise around town. The suspension and steering are 70's soft - you won't notice bumps in the road when you are out sailing this boat. The black exterior shines and looks great with very minimal rust, scratches, or dents. The red pinstripe really sets the shiny black paint off, especially when coupled with the red velour interior. The frame and underbody are in very nice shape with no rest holes or damage noted. Floors appear to be solid - see the underbody pictures we took. Body has a few dime sized surface rust spots beginning around the edges of the top and same here and there. Overall, it looks very nice. Even in the brutal cold we have been experiencing in Minnesota, the New Yorker has started easily and idles well. It runs smoothly, evenly, and quietly. Transmission shifts smoothly and confidently. Suspension and steering are fine for a vehicle of this vintage and size. The interior seats are in nice shape as is the red thick carpeting. The vinyl on the dash and door trim has damage in places. The majority of the power accessories work. Three of the four windows work, one likely has a broken regulator, as the motor can be heard but the window does not move. Power locks don't work, and AC has not been used but likely is not functional. Radio works well (an early 80's digital Chrysler radio is installed, original radio which is said to be functional is included). Many spare parts for the non-working items are present in the trunk from the prior owner, who apparently never got around to installing them. Tires are in good shape. Mileage on the vehicle is unknown - odometer says just over 11,000, but I would assume that is not accurate. This is a car that is meant to be driven and enjoyed.
