Description of 1963 Chrysler Imperial Crown |
Up for auction is this 1963 Imperial Crown Coupe. This beautiful Imperial is still available. I'll bite my tongue and not make any assumptions concerning a non paying high bidder. A fine and rare automobile and the last influences of the head designer at Chrysler/Imperial, Virgil Exner. It's in number 3 condition and is a well maintained original car with one repaint that was done years ago. The automobile resided in Wyoming before I purchased it and brought it to Illinois about 10 years ago. I'm selling it due to loss of storage. The odometer shows just under 74,000 miles which, judging by the condition of the car, is most likely the actual mileage. I've put about 10,000 of those miles on it in the last 10 years. This car is VERY roadworthy and drives and rides beautifully. The engine runs excellent and is well tuned. The original Carter AFB carburetor has been properly rebuilt a couple of years ago. The engine starts fine unless it hasn't been running in a few weeks or more and then it requires more cranking and a little pumping of the pedal to get started... but once it starts it's okay until it sits for an extended time again. The transmission has always worked well and shifts properly. There are no engine or transmission leaks beyond a drop or two. When I first bought the car the brakes were inspected and deemed to be good. They have always worked well and I have done nothing to them over the years. They still work well but, in line with good preventative maintenance, it might be a good time to check them again. The factory single exhaust was converted to dual exhaust before I bought the car and two new Walker mufflers were installed a couple of years ago. Resonators were not installed so it's probably just a little bit louder than a factory system. It sounds fine but maybe not if you like an absolutely quiet exhaust system. The interior is all original and in good condition. No stains. There has been a small hole repaired in the vinyl on the upper side corner of the passenger side seat back. It was well done and can be seen in one of the photos. The original headliner is beautiful. The vinyl dashboard has some waviness in the typical areas and a short crack right between the heater control pod and the vent bezel. It was repaired when the seat was repaired and is not that noticeable. The carpeting is original and is worn in the area where the drivers left foot would be. The clock works, all of the 6 power windows work, the radio, rear speaker and the radio foot tuner work properly. The power seat works properly. The electroluminescent instrument lighting works properly and all the gauges work properly. The power antenna works properly. The windshield wipers work properly and the windshield washer pump even works. The heater and fan work properly. All of the exterior lights work properly. The trunk light works properly. The interior dome light works properly. The body is solid and has never had any rust or repair that I know of. The paint is nice but not perfect and has had the occasional chip touched up. It could use a detailing or good polish and wax job. There is one tiny ding in the windshield (smaller than a dime). It was that way when I got the car. there is a scrape and small dent on the front bumper (please see close up photo). I hold a clear title for the car. It's time to pass on custody of this beautiful American automobile. I have set a very reasonable reserve and I think it should be met. This is a fairly rare automobile with only 1067 Crown 2 door models produced. In contrast Cadillac produced 10's of thousands of their 2 door model in 1963. Please feel welcome to contact me to set up an appointment for you or your mechanic to inspect this automobile. I'll miss taking this beautiful automobile out for special dinner or theater outings or the occasional cruise night. Pickup at my N.E. Illinois location. I can assist a transport if necessary. A $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction and the balance is to be paid by a certified cashiers check or cash. I don't think I've forgotten anything but if I have please let me know and I'll answer as best I can. Thanks for looking.
