Description of 1969 Chrysler 300 Series |
I have for sale a 1969 Chrysler 300 Convertible. This car has been stored in a dry garage since 2008 when it developed engine problems.Prior to that I drove it regularly. It has a little over 129,000 miles. This vehicle is currently titled in my name and I have the title. This is a nicely optioned car: it has power drum brakes,power windows, factory air conditioning, and bucket seats with a floor console and shifter. It also has power steering and automatic transmission. It has the original 440 cubic inch engine. It is yellow with a tan (saddle) interior. This is also a very rare car: far fewer than 2,000 were made. It doesn’t currently run. It developed a miss while I was driving it 12 years ago so I turned it off and had it towed home. I thought the timing chain had skipped a tooth and replaced it, but I never could get it to run again. It’s possible that it’s something minor but it was beyond my ability to repair at the time. Although I still love this car, I have moved on to other projects and I would like to see this go to someone who will repair it and drive it. The convertible top is in tatters, but the convertible top mechanism is intact and operable. The interior is not in great shape but it’s all there. The seat bottoms are in the worst shape (see the photo of the back seat). I did not remove the front seat covers for the photos but they are in similar condition to the back seat. This car has some rust in spots but most of the body is rust-free and there is no rust damage to the unibody and frame sections. The worst rust is in the sail panel (the area between the rear window and the trunk lid) and the trunk floor itself. The sail panel can be patched but I have a complete rust-free replacement which will come with the car. The center portion of the trunk floor is rusty but intact, but the side sections, near the quarter panels, are rusted out, particularly on the passenger side. There is also some rust on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. There are some small rust holes in the floor in the passenger compartment. The engine is partially disassembled. The carburetor,distributor, fuel pump, alternator, fan, belts, fan shroud, air cleaner, and radiator were removed, but I have them all and will include them in the sale, except for the carburetor. The fuel tank is intact and not rusty but will have to be drained and cleaned out. Between 2004 and 2008, I replaced the rear springs,completely redid the brakes (new shoes, wheel cylinders, drums, new steel and rubber brake lines, new master cylinder, new brake booster), installed a full dual exhaust system, and did some other general maintenance. The engine has anew timing chain, oil pump, and motor mounts. I replaced the oil pan gasket and installed a windage tray. The previous owner claimed that the transmission had been rebuilt, but I have no way to prove this. I also swapped out the 2.76:1 center section in the 8¾ rear axle with a 3.23:1 (it is an open rear);I can include the original center section in the sale.I replaced the axle bearings (using the correct adjustable type) and driveshaft U-joints at that time. This car is a project, but I think somebody with a little determination and some expertise could get this car back on the road without too much trouble, and then work on restoring the car while driving it. With a redone interior and a new convertible top, this car would be an absolute pleasure to own and operate. This is one of the biggest cars ever made, and itis hard to describe how amazing it is to drive around in this car with the top down. While I would love to keep heaping praise on this car, if I keep writing about how great it is, I will decide not to sell it, so I have to stop now. There are also a lot of spare parts included with this car,as follows: Replacement valence panel (under the front bumper) Replacement sail panel (removed from a rust-free car) Good condition dash panel from a blue car (can be re-dyed) Two spare instrument clusters from other cars A re-chromed rear bumper A set of black door panels and rear interior panels from a 1969 Chrysler Newport to use as cores for redoing the door panels, if needed A spare convertible top motor A complete used wiring harness from another Chrysler of similar vintage A new radiator, still in the box A power door lock setup from a 1969 Chrysler New Yorker,along with some spare power window switches Several spare heater blower motor resistors Numerous small parts, such as exterior lights, vents, etc.,that I bought on eBay over the years that are stashed throughout my house and which my wife will be delighted to get rid of A 1969 Chrysler factory service manual A 1969 Chrysler factory parts book – this is an invaluable resource in diagnosing problems and locating parts. It contains many exploded diagrams of systems in the vehicle with factory part numbers. These are very hard to find and expensive when you do find them. A large laminated aftermarket double-sided wiring diagram for 69 Chryslers, including wiring for the power windows and convertible top The successful buyer will be required to pay me in full within one week of the end of the auction.
