Description of 1966 Chrysler Imperial |
1966 Imperial Crown Convertible. If you are looking for one of these, look closely at this one-it has no bad habits and everything works (except the passenger door window). It is likely one of the most attractive and trouble-free lower mileage and “refreshed original” examples to be found. Get in, start car, drive anywhere. No Shakes, no smoke, no issues. Period. The car is a pleasure to drive on the freeway. Check my feedback as a seller before you read my description. I am aging out of the hobby. I have too many cars and reluctantly must sell a couple of them, so I am starting that process with this one which I’ve owned nearly 10 years. Take a look at just what I have put in to the car mechanically and cosmetically, between the paint, top and chrome work done-now calculate that cost vis a vis the BIN cost of the car. Here’s a recap of the car and my work on it. I purchased this car about 7-8 years ago after it had sat in storage for a least 20 years-maybe longer. The fellow from whom I purchased it told me he had bought it out of the estate of the second owner but that the guy had died and the car sat for many, many years. When I got it, the top was still original and would have still been serviceable but for the fact that someone lost the trunk key and in order to get in to the trunk, someone ripped the top and the boot well. Not exactly reflective of “Rhodes Scholar” standards, but that’s what happened. Both the boot and the top were professionally replaced. Although the paint was still original when I first got it, someone (I was told it was an angry ex-wife before my ownership) took a hammer and dented several panels, so I had the whole car PROFESSIONALLY repaired and re-painted-same color. I had both the front and rear bumpers re-chromed, the rear eagle and lower fender escutcheons, too. The car is GORGEOUS! Here’s the mechanical work I did in the last 1500 miles New: plugs, points, condenser, wires belts, hoses fan clutch water pump RE-CORED radiator fuel pump original AFB 4131s carb rebuilt brake master cylinder brake booster brake shoes-all brake hardware-all brake hoses-all rear end bearings inner and outer drive shaft bearing and carrier exhaust system fuel tank professional re-paint in original color professional re-chrome front and back top and rear window top cylinders top motor battery STATUS OF MECHANICAL / ELECTRICAL ALL LIGHTS WORK All Power options work (except pass side window) AC works AND BLOWS COLD (Still on R-12, like it should be) Auto Pilot is noisy and erratic so I disconnected it AM/FM radio works Power antenna works BOTH front power seats work All wood is very nice Dash top is UNCRACKED AND UNCRINKLED. Starts cold instantaneously.Starts warm like every other of the 28 Imperials I’ve owned: it cranks for a bit, then starts. YES I have the original fiberglass TOP BOOTS and they go with the car. Here are the 3 things you will want to do: 1) tidy up front seats 2) repair or replace r/f window motor 3) Some time in the near future replace upper and lower control arm bushings. Not dire because the car still tracks straight on the highway and does not shake or wander, but if I were keeping the car I would get it done in the next year or so because they are still original. |
