Description of 1942 Chrysler Imperial |
The Documented History of this 1942 Chrysler #7805682 Assembly: This 1942 Chrysler Crown Imperial C37 8 passenger limousine was one of the last Chryslers rolled off the assembly line before the factory was re-tooled for the war effort. According to the Chrysler Group Historical Services vehicle identification # 7805682 is in a range of numbers missing on the microfilm reel. It is believed that the paperwork for the last dozen or so cars built by Chrysler was never sent to their records division and were lost in the frenzy of “re-designing the plant” to build tanks and other military vehicles. Utah by prominent Salt Lake City attorney Mr. James Ingebretsen. 1950-1966: Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks. Sculptor Blair Motor Company arranged a sale for Mr. Ingebretsen to Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks. Dr. Fairbanks was a distinguished American sculptor and educator. In his career he created more than 100 public monuments to great characters and events in history. (Four are found in the U. S. Capitol Bldg. in Washington. D. C. ). He was also the founding Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah. 1966-1978: Harrah’s Automobile Collection In 1966 the Fairbanks family donated the Chrysler to the world famous Harrah’s Automobile Collection in Reno Nevada. In 1963 Dr. Fairbanks had completed the sculpture “The Pony Express Monument” for Mr. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Casino. From that contact Dr. Fairbanks had developed a great regard for Mr. Harrah and wanted him to have the vehicle for his collection. 1978-2004: William “Bill” Anderson of the Ponderosa Ranch Bill Anderson was the owner and founder of the Ponderosa Ranch theme park in Incline Village. Nevada. The Ponderosa Ranch was based on the popular 1960’s television western Bonanza which housed the affluent land. timber and livestock-rich Cartwright family. The Anderson family opened the amusement park in 1967 and millions of tourists visited from all over the world until it closed its doors in 2004. The Ponderosa Ranch had an old west church that could be reserved for weddings and thousands of couples gave their vows their. The weddings were such a popular and important part of the ranch that Mr. Anderson decided to add a vintage limousine to the wedding services. To accomplish this he contacted his friend Bill Harrah of the world famous Harrah’s Automobile Collection in Reno. Nevada. This is where the rare 1942 Chrysler Crown Imperial 8 passenger limousine was found. When the Anderson’s first obtained the Chrysler it was a standard 4 door style hardtop as constructed by the Chrysler Corporation. Its limited pre-war 1942 production numbers made it rare but the Anderson’s wanted something even more spectacular for the weddings at the ranch. The Chrysler underwent a major custom transformation into a 4 door limousine convertible specifically for carrying brides. grooms and wedding parties to and from the Ponderosa Ranch Church. The custom styling included a reinforced split front windshield. similar in style to the 2 door convertibles of the same period. and a reinforced rear deck with padding so the bride and groom could sit high and enjoy the ride. Most of the custom modification were done on site at the Ponderosa Ranch by mechanics and vehicle maintenance personnel employed to care for the many vehicles at the Ranch. The finished product was a beautiful brick brown with tan interior. suicide door. full time convertible with a Spit-Fire straight 8 engine. The custom work is similar in style to work done by the prestigious Derham Body Company of Pennsylvania who also customized 1942 Chrysler Crown Imperial Limousines. 2004-present: The Seller. a car collector. The Chrysler has not been modified from its transformation received at the Ponderosa Ranch. It is a weekend driver that makes trips to diners for lunch and an occasional car show. |
