Description of 1938 Chrysler Royal |
An older frame-off restoration that still shows well. Overall condition is very good to excellent. This is a "driver" that looks and runs great - always does well at local car shows - draws lots of attention sinceit'srare to see. Driven less that 200 miles a year since purchasing in year 2000. I have always kept this car covered and protected in a climate controlled (heating and humidity) garage. I never drive it on wet roads or when rainy conditions are forecasted. Non Smoking owner -- interior has no odor issues. Everything is maintained as close to original as possible. Recently replaced/rebuilt entire brake system. Original master cylinder borehasbeen sleeved. Paint is estimated to be approx. 25 years old but it's still looks very nice. Color (parrot blue) is original for 38 Chryslers. Thereis some small (1/4" or less)paint blistering on the roof and trunk lid that can be seen up closeif the light reflection is just right and a few other smallpaint imperfections.Bodyshows no evidence of any rust or dents. Chrome is excellent. Glass is all good including a recent new windshield. Tires look good but are at least 15+ years old -- spare tire matches andis located behind the passenger seat. Wiring was replaced during it's last restoration. Radio does notwork and clock is not wired into system. It took me 10 years to find the original dash clock and was worth it -- looks great. Mechanically the car seems very sound. Original 6 volt system starts this engine very easily and always runs cool - never any overheating or vapor lock issues. Suspension feels solid and drives straight and true down the road. The engine is not original but visuallylooks "period" correct. I was informed by the previous owner that it's a 1950 Chrysler motor. I have verified this by comparing it to pictures of another 1950 motor. This motor is very similar just has a bit more cu.in. &horsepower. The air cleaner was changed to keep it looking original. Accuracy of mileage on odometeris really unknown since itcould notbe verified by previous owner. For the past 15 years I havelovingly enjoyed this car. I meticulously maintained it while looking for ways to improveit's condition. I have tried to be as truthful in my descriptionaspossible so that you will not be disappointed if you decide topurchase the car. If you are seriously interestedthen I stronglyrecommend that you take the time to personally inspect it. Market valueprice isbased onconditionin-line with estimates shown inKrause Publications "Collector CarPrice Guide". Reserve is also set a little lower than "Buy It Now" price. Vehicle is being sold "as is" with no warranties expressed or implied. All pictures shown in this listing were just taken on June 9th 2015.
