Description of 1986 Citroen Other CX 25 Prestige |
CitroënCX 25 Prestige Long Wheel base fast-back 1986 Funkiness at its best! This is a NO RESERVE auction! This is an amazing and simply gorgeous Citroën CX 25 Prestige. Finished in silver with black leather interior the car is a great preservation of this space-age marque. The Prestige was the absolute top of the line and car of choice by many European statesman because of its massive 10" extra length in the rear seat compartment. This provided an incredibly spacious interior for rear seat passengers and with all the luxuries made it very popular for heads of state limousines. This was/is a grey market car that has spent most of its American life in Florida so it is very clean and rust free. The car was owned by Citroën fanatics all its life and its condition clearly shows that. As the pictures show. it is in great presentation. Recently service work has included tie rod ends. hydraulic work. CV boots and new TRX tyres all round including the spare. Mechanically the car is in fine shape with no major issues. Just a quick look under the hood is testament to how well this Citroën has been maintained. Of course. the famous Citroën hydraulic suspension works well traversing from its low to high position swiftly with no leaks in the system. The brakes are perfect. The ABS light is on but there is no fault (go figure!). As does the "self centering" steering which was unique to Citroën. Body and paint is generally good. It was repainted in its original silver some 5 years ago and presents shiny and consistent. It was a "decent" job presenting clean and tidy but with minor imperfections here and there. It is excellent driver quality but not show quality. There is a recess in the middle of the roof which can be seen under painter lights but not everyday lighting and there are minor chips and marks around the car but nothing "ugly" - and do not show up in photos. Some of the mouldings show some age but still present well for driver use. The wheels were recently removed stripped and powder coated to factory finish and present as brand new. The interior is a stunning aspect of the car with the black leather presenting in excellent condition and with very minimal wear on the seats. whilst the carpets and headliner are near perfect. The dash and console are in very good condition with no cracks in the padding and the rear parcel shelf only shows very minimal fading. The leather door panels are nice as are the pull handles and the leather arm rests. The buttons and switch gear are also in good shape. This is all pretty amazing for an 80's Citroën which were rather plasticy in design and not renown for their build quality. Air conditioning blows cold and heater nice and hot. Electric windows work well as do dash lights and lighting throughout the car. The stereo is not connected. The headlight brights are not working. It may be as simple as a bulb but I have not checked. Tyres are new Michelin TRX 180/65/390s. Hard to buy these days and very expensive! Not much more can be said but to invite you to take a close look at the many. many photos of this great Citroën CX 25 Prestige. Truly a great example. I am sure you will agree. It is not a show car and does have imperfections but surely ranks amongst one of the better examples available for sale today. A fantastic low-cost piece of luxury Citroën history. Please note; being a "grey market" car the VIN is not accepted by eBay so the one shown in the heading is a random 86 VIN. The correct VIN for this Citroën from the title is: VF7MANH0000NH5530Also note; as this Citroën was imported from Europe. the speedometer is in kilometres; 189. 00 klms which translates to 10 approximately 118. 00 miles. History of the Citroën CX - ref: WikipediaThe CX was initially a huge success in Europe. more than 132. 00 being produced in 1978. It found customers beyond the loyal Citroën DS customer base and brought the technology of the advanced. but somewhat impractical. Citroen SM to the masses. Unlike its principal competitors. the CX did not have worldwide distribution—the cost of development and improvements had to be met from a geographically small sales base. Design The CX's flowing lines and sharp Kamm tail were designed by auto stylist Robert Opron. drawing upon its precursor DS. Mechanically. the car was one of the most modern of its time. combining Citroën's unique hydro-pneumatic integral self-leveling suspension. speed-adjustable DIRAVI power steering (meaning "steering with controlled return" more accurately described in English as "power steering with power assisted return"). and a unique interior design that did away with steering column stalks. allowing the driver to reach all controls with his or her hands on the steering wheel. The CX suspension’s ability to soak up large undulations and yet damp out rough surfaces was extraordinary. with a consistent ride quality. empty. or fully laden. The suspension was attached to sub frames that were fitted to the body through flexible mountings. to improve even more the ride quality and to reduce road noise. The British magazine "Car" described the sensation of driving a CX as hovering over road irregularities. much like a ship traversing above the ocean floor. This suspension was used under license by Rolls-Royce on the Silver Shadow making the Rolls-Royce a very successful hit. The CX was a transverse engine design. in contrast to the longitudinal mid-engine layout of the Traction Advant and DS. This saved space; the CX was 8 in (20 cm) shorter than the DS. The CX fastback had insufficient rear legroom to function as a chauffeur driven limousine (a common use for the spacious DS model). so in 1976. Citroën introduced a 10 in (25 cm) longer version. the "Prestige" variant. which used the wheelbase of the longer Safari/Familiale estate. The Prestige offered more rear legroom than any other standard-sized sedan in the world. In 1977. it also gained a raised roofline to improve comfort further. Contemporary reviews of the Prestige were favourable. In 1976 the UK's Driver and Motorist praised its comfort and interior fitments. - In France. the CX Prestige model was used by the French Government. including former president Jacues Chirac. who kept using the CX many years after it had left production. - Mario Soares the Prime Minister of Portugal used a CX. as did the Norwegian government in the 1980s - The singer Grace Jones sported a haircut shaped like a CX in a prominent series of controversial advertisements for the GTi Turbo in 1985. and included the CX prominently in her 1985 music video. - The CX appeared in several films. like the early Mel Gibson film Tim from Australia. Private Benjamin. starring Goldie Hawn. and the 1980s ITV (UK) children's Sci Fi drama "Chocky". - The character Jasper Palmer. played by Michael Caine in the movie "Children of Men". drove a vehicle based on a CX Safari. This fitted in with the director's vision of vehicles being futuristic designs based on familiar cars but with an unfamiliar disguise. - During the Summer 2010 season. popular BBC motoring show Top Gear hosted a challenge to its presenters to build a caravan out of an ordinary vehicle. whereupon Jeremy Clarkson built a three-storey house out of a 1988 Citroën CX Break. Although licensed and bonded. I am not a main-stream retail car dealer or broker; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of British cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the Rolls-Royce marque which I take seriously. I take pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However. auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer. and you are the winning bidder. please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. Once you bid or make an offer. you are doing so to buy WITHOUT conditions. Your bid can not be subject to anything. A $1. 00. 00 deposit (non-refundable) is required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance unless you are willing to meet the cost of transfer fees. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. All payments are non-refundable. Payments as described above form an important part of this purchase contract and so. if all the funds are not received as outlined above. I reserve the right to terminate the transaction without notice. If there has been any deposit or other part payments received and I elect to terminate the contract. I reserve the right to keep any such deposits or payments and resell the vehicle to another bidder or interested party or re-list the vehicle at any time. To be clear. if you change your mind for ANY reason and do not complete the transaction in the time-frame required. you will forfeit your deposit. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a national and worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost. As a collector and experienced restorer of a range of classic cars. I make every effort to bring my cars to a high standard. By comparison. my cars are generally superior to others available but they are by no means perfect. You must expect some issues. Unless specifically stated. the car is not of show standard but of nice "driver" condition. Please understand. show cars cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve and sell for prices commensurate. so the sale price of this car reflects its relative condition. You are buying "condition" accordingly. Buyers should not expect to receive concours quality or "perfect" cars at these prices. Please also understand it is not always possible to attend to every item. or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked items. Further. and very importantly. these cars are not new. So this means a 29 year old car is predominantly comprised of 29 year old parts. And old parts will fail. All buyers must understand and expect that things can or will wear out. break and/or stop functioning without notice. This is even more likely with hand-built English cars of early technology when compared to the typical American car of the same vintage. Suspension and brakes on these cars are complex. We thoroughly check them and replace things that are identified faulty. But please understand. by example; if we change a brake line because it appears aged or faulty. we do NOT at the same time replace all other hoses because they are of similar age. This is considered "preventative maintenance". We do not do this unless specifically requested and is not included in the purchase price. Feel free to ask for this additional service. Further. a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment. may decide to play-up the next. After all. it is some 29 years old. This is the nature of any used car and especially British cars. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed. written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description. authenticity. genuineness. or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. If any aspect of the description contradicts what can be seen in the photos. then the photos shall prevail as the reference point. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness. unforeseen imperfection. defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any written or oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age. in most US states. the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage. transportation. or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end. a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also. you must remember that this is a 29 year old vehicle. and while it is up to you. I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country” until you have familiarised yourself with the car. At least. I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home. PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS. CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU CONTEMPLATE DOING SO AS. RESPECTFULLY. THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS. I am sorry if these terms seem harsh but there seem to be some very unrealistic buyers out there - fortunately. only few of these people exist but those that do can make life difficult. so it appears EVERYTHING needs to spelled out. Very simply put. this is an old car being offered for sale. It is not new and is subject to the perils of age. Further. Citroëns are not without nuances. idiosyncrasies and they are renown for a host of design issues which can make them not inexpensive to maintain. So. please respect the terms and conditions when you bid. |
