Description of 1983 Dodge Other Pickups DIESEL D-50 |
1983 DODGE D-50 TURBO-DIESEL 4X4 PICKUP This is a nice little truck and these are somewhat rare to find. This is a mitsubishi vehicle, uilt and marketed for dodge as the D-50. It is nearly identical to the mitsubishi mighty max, ith the exception of different badging and other minor exterior details. This has the 4d55t turbo diesel 4-cylinder. This is a 4x4 with manual 5-speed transmission. The truck runs and drives great. Clean carfax. The body is in nice shape for a D-50 of this age, nd has very little rust. It has no structural rust. This pickup has tow bar mounts and comes with the matching tow bar. The odometer shows 47,723. This could be original, don't really know. I would assume some of the miles on the odometer are from being towed but I'm not sure. From what I was told, am the third owner of the truck. The carfax verifies this. The original owner had it from 1983-1996. The second owner had the truck from 1996-2014 and did not drive the truck much. These trucks are very efficient on fuel for their size and have good power and torque. They also have the ability to run a variety of alternative fuels including used vegetable oil (WVO), ransmission fluid, ydraulic fluid, nd engine oil. Usually some modification is required to runs these fluids but it depends on what you want to use and the climate you are in. Here are all the details on this dodge. I have more pics I can send and a video is below of the truck driving. Thanks, nd happy bidding. MECHANICAL This pickup has the 4d55t turbo-diesel 4-cylinder with 5-speed manual transmission. It is a 4x4 with part-time transfer case and hubs. The truck also has power steering and brakes. This pickup runs and drives very nice. The motor does not smoke blue at all, ven at cold start in cold weather. The transmission and clutch work perfectly with no abnormalities. The powersteering and brakes work great and the parking brake works also. The brakes don't squeek, ull, r anything like that. The heater, ights, nd wipers work as they should. This has an aftermarket wiper delay switch that I did not try. I'm not sure that the wiper squirter works. The tires are nice siped winter tires with lots of tread. The truck drives perfect down the road, ven in four wheel drive. It does not pull or vibrate. The front-end and steering are tight. The original wheels and hubcaps are included. The wheels on the truck now are toyota wheels I believe. The truck has very good power and torque for a little truck. I've had many small diesel vehicles before and this has way more power than a non-turbo isuzu or vw. The engine runs cool and has no water in the oil or oil in the water. When I bought the truck, he original glow plug system was not functioning correctly. I believe the timer or resistor needs replaced. I did not spend much time diagnosing it. They would come on but immediately go off so it could just be something related to a temperature sensor. The glow plugs are now hooked to a switch that engages the factory relays, hat engage the glow plugs. The switch is the spring loaded type, o you cannot leave them long by accident. When it was 30-40 degrees it started right up easily after holding for 5 seconds. When colder, held them on a little longer. It started in 15 degree weather without being plugged in. The engine heater does work well though. I have checked the glow plugs also, nd they are all good. The manual glow plug system works, ut you can choose to get the original system fixed and I would if I were keeping it. The original system cycles the plugs after it starts for a little while, elping warm-up. It's not needed unless it's pretty cold out. At least one of the front axle cv type boots is ripped. There is no vibration at all or clunking so you may be able to just put a new boot on it. All gauges work. Overall the truck is very good mechanically and need very little. I would trust it to drive daily without question. Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code BODY The body is in pretty nice shape for an un-restored 1983 dodge. The paint is original, ith no body filler. The previous owner put touchup paint on the door and tailgate but there was no filler work done there. The doors, ood and tailgate open/close as they should. The paint is not perfect but pretty nice overall and it shine nicely. The only body rust is on the rocker panels, nder the door. This is not structural. It is the only rust on the truck. The rockers are fairly easy for a bodyman to repair, ut it's not necessary. No frame rust. No rust in the box, enders, ood, oors, tc. etc. The topper on the truck is not that nice but would be usable if you need one. The back window on the topper door needs repaired. The rear bumper on the truck is included, ut in rough condition. You could maybe use the mounts though to build a new bumper. The windshield is cracked but usable. INTERIOR The interior is in decent condition. The previous owner took the original seat out and replaced it with bucket seat. I really prefer the original sized bench seat and you should be able to find one at a salvage yard or on craigslist off another d50 or mighty max. Another small-truck bench seat will work I'm sure too little work. I am tall, o the bucket seats make it harder for me to fit but I've had other trucks like this with the original bench seat and it wasn't a problem. The dash is in ok shape but cracked. Door panels and carpet are decent. The headliner is gone. These trucks just had a piece of upholstery up there so it's fairly easy to replace. This has an older tape deck. I have not tried the tape part but the radio works. The speakers don't sound so good though. Overall the interior is decent, lean, nd usable. OVERALL These little trucks are popular due to the flexibility and efficiency of diesel fuel, nd the added power/torque that a gas engine of this year would not have. Thanks and happy bidding. Sold as-is. Please read payment requirements. On Jan-14-16 at 08:25:12 PST, eller added the following information: The original wheels and hubcaps are included. Not an extra set of tires. |
