European Motor Studio is very excited to offer this very unusual and rare 1972 Citroen SM 5-Spd Coupe finished in a gorgeous correct shade of Brun Scarabee over its original Brown leather interior. This SM was sold new in the United States and has been fitted with the correct glass Cibie light covers as the European models carried. This SM has just come fresh out of a private NJ collection where it has been kept in a climate controlled storage unit and used sparingly over the past few years. The Brun Scarabee Metallic paint is an older repaint that is in beautiful condition only showing minor stone chips on the driver door and a couple small scuff marks on the lower rear driver fender. The body is nice and straight and free from any signs of prior accident damage or repair. The undercarriage is very clean and original free from any rust damage or previous repair. All of the chrome and trim are in excellent condition only showing small signs of age (rear bumper has a small quarter size ding in the rear passenger side and the black rubber trim is separating on the driver side). All of the glass is in excellent condition and free from any damage. The original Brown leather interior is in very nice condition showing light age and use but still carries a nice patina'd look and feel. The original carpets show some age in the driver foot well and the original rubber matt does have some cracking. The original dash is in excellent condition and is free from cracks or splitting and the original brushed finish is still in excellent condition free from any scratching or damage. All of the gauges are nice and clear as are the switchgear. The 2.7 Maserati V6 engine starts right up with the choke and then settles into a smooth purr. The engine does not smoke under start up or acceleration and pulls beautifully through the RPM range and all of the gears. The engine has just been tuned with new fluids, plugs and wires and a new transmission cable has just been installed. The Citroen build and designed Hydropneumatic suspension famous in the DS and SM models has just received new hydraulic accumulators and rebuilt rear shocks and filters. The suspension system operates as it is designed and automatically levels the ride height when passengers enter and exit the vehicle and when the car has been resting for a few days will automatically rise up to normal ride height when the car is running. All of the ride height levels are operating as designed and move into positon quickly and with ease. The gearbox is excellent and precise with every shift and does not grind into any of the gears. The clutch feels nice and tight and free from any slipping. The brakes have an excellent positive feel and free from any grinding or pulsating and the steering has a very positive feel and response and the hydraulics bring the steering back to dead center. At 80mph down the freeway this SM has an outstanding ride, very smooth and very quiet. All of the electronics are operating as designed including all of the dash lights and center console lights. The warning light cluster is operating as designed including the turn signal tones, the fasten seat belt light and warning tone and all of the warning lights on the cluster illuminate with the key. All of the exterior lights, headlights, brake and running lights, reverse lights, power windows and dome light are all functioning. The SM will forever go down in history as one of the most iconic and innovative cars ever made. The SM comes from a time when design and performance were key factors in manufacturing a car and the soul took lead in the way an automobile looks. The SM will never be replicated and has become one of the most intriguing and sought after European GT cars in collections today.
