Description of 1980 Citroën AX 2cv Club |
I'm having to relist this car due to a lot of confusion from this ad. I thought it was pretty clear, but due to the number of similar questions I had right to the last minute, I will post the most sought after responses below to clarify. Please read. The responses will be in red afterthe write up. Selling my 2CV hardtop. Yes you read it right, Hardtop! This was a factory - dealer install option for the build year 1980 only, injust two markets. Less than 200 were optioned that year and this is the only known surviving/unmodified car. This is not an aftermarket add on fiberglass unit thatis available in Europe. Those are three piece tops of fiberglass. This is original DS model plastic. You can tell it is original by its one piece construction and the three ribs that flow to and coincide with the three ribs on the boot. This car has just 39,340 miles on it. I am the second owner and found it stored away in the basement of an apartment building in Spain. The original owners parents bought it for her to use in college and spec'd it with every option they could get at the time. Oddities like the hardtop, stainless hubcaps (not the aluminum you normally see), bumper guards, etc.. She drove it through college but couldn't afford two cars when she married. She also could not part with the car so stored it away for years bringing out for its annual service and inspection. I was lucky enough to find this and convince her that it needed better. I have tried to do right by this car and have taken care of it for the last 13 years doubling the 20K miles that she drove it. In that time I have added a set of aftermarket Michelin rims and tires so as to preserve the originals, a 123 ignition for easier starting and driving, a solid state regulator, a remote oil filter to add an additional quart of oil to the 2.5 to help keep the engine better lubricated and cool. I also removed the original rubber floor mats as they trap moisture and had caused some light holing in the floor boards where her mechanic added mastic. All the original parts I kept and are available with the car. Also note that I have brought back a slew of additional parts to include 2 fuel pumps, a coil, plugs, oem oil filters, clutch cable, lights, bulbs and lenses, oil filler necks, heater hoses, trim pieces etc. Some of this is not shown in the pictures such as a new replacement bumper still in wrapping, 2cv repair manual, and other items. Also with this car come the original wheels and tires, original bumper jack and engine crank, under hood tire rack, original guards, look at that suspension/wheel chalk! still like new. Most got tossed. I also have all the original sales and registration paperwork from its original sale as well as the maintenance book. This car has a very well documented history including a feature in the May/June 2006 Motor Trend classics barn finds column. I have the import paperwork and a clear Florida title. High points of this car. Check out the still original factory QA marks (green/yellow) on the engine and trany. The low mileage and extra care given to keeping it original. This is not a re VINed newer model posing as an older car. I also have asked some restorers to look into restoring this here as well as in Europe and both have told me to leave it alone. They never see 2cv's this nice. Some low points. Mastic in the floor, a rivet job on the front left door rail, some odd patch work, minor cosmetic flaws. This car has never been restored so its all original including the odd body fixes that were done before I got it. But the enjoyment factor has always beenhigh, and it just comes off as car character now. Considering it was all done by the previous owners dealer mechanic. If a shiny perfect car is what you want, this isn't it. The one concession I did make to originality wasto replace thecloth interior which was coming apart from dry rot witha better custom made vinylinterior that is both cool to look at and more durable andcomfortable.I have been told by both restorers that getting this car to showroom look is really a minor issue. You be the judge. If you are considering purchase, Your own shipper is also invited to pick up. Local pickup here in Florida is also an option. Bid winners must make a 1500 deposit through paypal and the rest will need to be in bank check or cash before I will ship or allow pickup. - This is a 1980 model. It is not an older car with the VIN number changed to get it into the U.S. - Yes it is a 602cc engine, not the smaller 435cc. 1980 models did not come with 435. - Yes, front drum brakes. Better really, less prone to fade on long hills like the discs. - Yes, the brakes use DOT 3 or 4, not LHM - Yes, it has the heavier duty transmission that came with the drum brake models - Yes the frame was painted underneath to protect it, not to cover up - Yes the frame is solid. This car came from a dry climate in southern Spain. No sag - Yes, both sets of wheels and tires come with car - Yes, all the parts shown come as well. - No I will not unwrap the new bumper. It is wrapped and padded well so I won't disturb it. - The wheel chock is the original as is everything else. - Yes, I have two cold weather muffs that come with the car. - Yes, if you wish to inspect it feel free. Yes an independent inspector can come as well. - Yes, I will allow you to see the car before payment, but I must keep the deposit for Ebay/paypal fees and for causing me to re advertise if you decide its not for you. - No I will not pull it off Ebay and have it sold in your big car auction - No, there are no best offers here. Straight up bidding or now (buy it now price) - No I haven't had to do any body work to the car. Its just as I bought it. Yes, I am the second owner. No other drivers in between. - Finally, yes, I want it to go to a good home, not a museum or stacked behind 20 other cars with no attention given to her. |
