Description of 1992 Daihatsu Other SE |
If you know much about late 80's and early 90's small Japanese four wheel drive trucks like the Suzuki Samurai, Sidekick, Chevy Tracker, Mitsubishi Montero, Dodge Raider, Isuzu Trooper, etc. then you probably know that the Daihatsu Rocky was one of the best, and tragically, one of the least well known or appreciated as Daihatsu left the U.S. market in 1992. There were only 295 of these sold in 1992, and they were only sold for three years, so these are pretty rare and even more rare with so few miles and in such good shape. It has no rust. Built by Toyota, with a Toyota 1.6L 4 cylinder, these have a reputation as being indestructible and capable of going anywhere off road. It's really like a small Jeep Wrangler/CJ. The rear hardtop, behind the B-pillar comes off, and the tilt up sunroof is removable. There is a roll bar in the back over the rear bench seat. The rear bench seat folds up for storage and is also easily removable. This Rocky has only 76,XXX original miles and runs and drives like new. The only flaws are a cracked windshield ($180 at Safelite), a couple of small stone chips in the paint on the hood, a crack in the left front fender that has been repaired, and torn seat upholstery on the driver's seat. Everything else works and the timing belt was replaced at 64,000 miles. The viscous fan has been removed for a front mount fan with an adjustable thermostat to control its operation. 4 wheel drive works great. No power steering, no air conditioning (was not standard equipment on the SE models), so there is very little to go wrong. It's a simple design and a great back country rig that gets you in and out of tight spots. It has great ground clearance. This little gem also has a 3 speed transfer case, so it isn't like the later "AWD" models-it has 2WD, 4WD Hi, and 4WD Low. It has a body on frame design with rear leaf springs and front independent suspension and locking hubs, so you know it's tough as a Toyota pickup truck. We routinely see 24 mpg in combined driving. Sold as-is, where-is with no warranty expressed or implied. This is a 25 year old truck. I have an extra radiator too. Fly in, drive it home, I'll pick you up at the airport. Or have it shipped. Either way I will work with you and whomever you may hire to ship it and I will hold it for as long as you need. Thanks for looking. |
