NO TRADES: Sorry, NO trades of any kind will be considered.INSPECTION: If you would like to inspect the unit PRIOR to making an offer I will be happy to co -operate with you as best I can but this is your responsibility. NOTE: An inspection of the vehicles mechanicals was done on April 2 of 2016 by a certified technician and the major issues found were as follows: 1. He found a small gas line leak that has been been repaired. 2. He informed me the front tires date to 12 years old although they appear new and undriven. 3. The distibutor shaft was found to be a little sloppy and could be re-bushed. 4. He recommends the radiator be flushed and refilled with 50 percent anti-freeze mixtur, and a new rad cap be installed. 5. He recommends new belts and hoses (I have a spare used fan belt that will be included with sale. TWO VIDEO's are available showing the motor and tailpipe when runnin, they can be viewed here: 1. https://youtu.be/VxTZ7fOWnDg ( named Kev78Datsun) 2 . https://youtu.be/yQlAxU_temM ( named Kev78Datsun2)Just in time for summer RV season!!! Up for bid is a beautiful all-original 1978 Datsun 620 Motorhome! Perhaps the nicest original 620 Datsun you will ever see, and a collectors dream. It has only 11,497 original miles, and the pictures speak for themselves. This was a correct and professional motorhome conversion, using the recommended Datsun heavy duty EHL Datsun 620 chassis that featured beefed up rear suspension with stronger springs and shocks among other things. These units are very rare in themselves, but one in this condition is nearly unheard of. There is virtually no rust, the engine bay looks nearly untouched. The paint is believed to be origina, with minimal flaws especially considering its age. You can see some slight surface rust in the image with the front tire removed but it is not serious. What looks like white overspray around the wheelwell and grill is not, it is desert salts and the plastic itself deteriorating,in my opinion. I bought it about two years ago, with hopes of restoring it, but financial obligations have forced this sale. It must have sat for a long period before I got it, but it took very little to get it back to good running condition: It was given things like new spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, rotor ; accelerator pump and general tune-up. Oil and air filters were also changed. The brakes are fin, and needed only bleeding. (I believe the previous owner redid them just prior to selling to me ). After all that the motor starts easily and revs easily; becuase I have never insured it I cannot say how it would perform on the road but I see no reason it would not perform well. The compression was tested and read around 165 being nice and even on all cylinders, this is a very good reading for the L20B motor.I have arranged a recent mechanical inspectio, done by a professional technician ; and the report will be left inside the vehicle for you to see upon pickup. (I will try to upload a picture of it before this listing ends). The major issues he found are listed up above. Please note he did not do a a smog or road test. If you would like to inspect it in person, or have someone inspect it for you, I will certainly co-operate with you to find a time that would work ; please give me a call to set a date. The bad news is, having probably spent its entire life in a desert climate, that extreme heat has caused some damage to the motorhome section itself. The entire interior needs refinishing; there is evidence that the extreme heat literally melted certain items ( such as seen in the Datsun name plate and grill, also the interior plastic door lock knobs). The front seats are ripped. The rear foam seat cushions have hardened nearly solid. In spite of this, the stove still works, the condition of all other things such as water pump, flush tanks and all electricals is unknown. The toilet appears to have been never used, in my opinion. The fridge does NOT work and the switch to switch between electric and propane is broken . The brand is "elixir trav'ler" ( The owners book is still there). I do not know if it should have had levelling jacks, but I am pretty sure it once had a ladder on the back which is now gone. In addition, both roof vent covers are missing, so those will have to be replace, I don't know if it would have gotten any water damage through the years becuase of that, I think the desert sun probably was the real problem. I do not have a key for the rear motorhome door although its possible to lock from the inside. Because I don't have the original owners manual I don't know if anything else is missing, so " WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET ". I suspect it once had drain hoses stored in the rear bumper, if so they are long gone. The vehicle jack and its handle, and wheel wrench which new 620's always had are also missing.I have set a low starting bid with a reasonable reserve, as I know it deserves a new owner who can give it the TLC that I cannot. Whether ones goal is to restore it, or just enjoy as is, it should prove very fun and satisfying indeed and should give fantastic economy not to mention a good investment. I have owned many 620's throughout my life ( including one I bought brand new and still drive today) and I can personally state these trucks were and are tough as nails, with rust being virtually the only thing that ever did them in. The original L20B motor was a perfect blend of simplicity and economy ; this one sports the electronic ignition that came out in the later years, and should ensure many miles of care free driving. Perhaps for the very young who are unfamiliar with the marque I should add that Datsun was made by the Nissan motor Company. Many of you will know that Toyota made a similar mini RV back in the day, and they were notorious for the rear axles flying loose ( Indeed many think the legal ramifications of that caused Toyota to stop making them). The Datsun 620 RV had no such problems ; indeed the Datsun 620 mini-truck was rated #1 in the 1970's AHEAD of Toyota. I have an original Cab and Chassis Brochure published by Nissan showing a motorhome conversion and listing the official GVWR and curb weigh, etc; again if you wish to know any such info listed in it just email or call me.A few loose ends: Rear tires are new, I just bought them. The front tires appear to be brand new and undriven, but they actually date out to 12 years old according to the Inspector. The steady bearing and drive shaft u-joints look good. All dash lights and controls work (the radio does not). It is located in Needles California. If you intend not on driving i, but instead having it hauled, that would be entirely your responsibility although I would co-operate in any way I can. It could also be left where it is for a reasonable period of time should you need more time to arrange for moving it, SO LONG AS YOU AGREE that I am not liable for any damage theft vandalism etc that might occur during that storage time. It is my personal opinion that it should easily be roadworthy enough to get you safely home, but of course I cannot gaurantee that and officially you are buying it " AS-IS WHERE-IS ". I have a clear Non-Op California Title for it; feel free to call California DMV to verify if you wish. Also just for your info I am a Canadian citizen. A 500.00 DOLLAR NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT UPON SUCCESSFUL BID will be due within 48 hours of winning, with the remainder due in cash when picking it up. Alternatively, wire transfer of funds will be accepted. In ALL cases this vehicle and its Title will NOT be released until complete payment is received and all funds have irrevocably cleared BOTH Banks. If full payment is not received within seven days of Auction close the winning bidder will be viewed as non-paying and the vehicle will be re-listed on Ebay. This vehicle is sold AS IS WHERE IS with NO WARRANTY. Should you wish any additional info you are welcome to call me 403-248-8575 and I will try my best to answe, please leave a message if I don't answer ( I work weekends and odd hours) Thank you and Good Luck!
