Description of 1974 Datsun Z-Series

1974 DATSUN 260Z2.6 Liter- 162 HP- 6 Cylinders Inline - Dual Carbs
OK tuners, here's the perfectrestoration project!
With a little time & TLC, turn this straight 6, 162 HP, classic sports car, into something straight out of The Fast & the Furious!
I did get it on the Freeway the other dayand enjoyed a rush of nostalgia as it hit 65 easily and all the rattling of its parts were whiskedaway by the rush of air throughthe window.
Bought by my brother-in-law as a restoration project a little over a year ago,it wasn't running, but after fixing most of the mechanical and electrical problems, it runs well. He no longer has time to restore it and offered it to my son who was glad to take it. Unfortunately, my son couldn't adapt to a stick shiftand sadly, it's storied history was of no interest to him.Basically, it's not practical for us to keep.
What I've been told:
  • The gas tank was dropped and cleaned it out
  • The electric fuel pump was fixed and cleaned
  • The in-line fuel filter was replaced
  • The gas lines were blown out
  • The carburetors were cleaned andsynchronized(but not rebuilt)
  • A charcoal scrubber was added to the fuel system
  • The mechanical fuel pump was replaced
  • It has new plugs, cap, router and new spark plug wires
  • The Head lights and turn signals were re-wired
  • It has a few rust spots visible on the outside
  • There is a coat of paint that was added to parts of it over the original green to prevent rusting
  • The hatchback has been locked shut to prevent the hinges from breaking due to rust.
Here's what I know:
  • The title is clear (in my sons name)
  • Doesn't need a CA Smog Certificate
  • Runs strong (once it's warmed up)
  • The transmission changes easily
  • The door locks don't work (but there are new locks included.)
  • The radio doesn't work.
  • The AC works, but needs recharging
  • The heater works
  • The dashboard instruments (except the speedometer) lost power for no apparent reason (probably a fuse, but I haven't checked,) but the car restarted and ran the rest of the way home.
  • The Odometer reads 01,973, but I'm sure its at least 101,973.
Searching the internetfor similar vehicles, you'll find a wide range of prices. Completelyrestored, it can sell for as much as $30,000. Rusty and non-working, it could fetch $1500-$2000 just in parts. In it's current condition, this car could be worth anywhere between $2000 and $8000.
I'm not looking to make a fortune, just enoughto buy something my son can drive to school and work.So make me an offer!
If you have any questions, please ask.
The car is in Burbank, CA.There is no reserve and no buy it now price and the auction ends Monday the 8th,so if all I get is the opening bid, it's sold this time next week!
