Description of 1978 Datsun Z-Series 280Z

NO RESERVE highest bid winsThis is the one. I would put this car up and compare it against any $30k z currently for sale. This is not a 10 footer car, this is a put-your-nose-right-up-to-the-paint-and-still-be-impressed-type-of-car. This is a, 'looks great in pics but looks even better in person kind of car'.
I started with the absolute best southern no snow no salt state 280z I could find. After looking at a dozen over the course of 6 months, I found this from garaged Florida owner who owned for over 37 years same owner stored in same garage in Florida. No snow, no salt Fl car that spent more time indoors than outside in the heat/sun and it shows. .It gets better--they purchased a 2nd car about 35 years ago so this car literally became a garage piece--only driven to car meets and shows and only a couple thousand miles/yr put on it over past few decades. Hence the low 135k miles (driven a little over 3k miles per year). Even w the low miles, the prev owner did a full master engine kit to the motor 20k miles ago- all new gaskets, seals, hoses, cast piston Set with rings and wrist pins. Rod Bearing Set, Main Bearing Set, complete Engine Overhaul Gasket Set, Oil Pump, Freeze Plug Set, and complete Timing Kit and new clutch kit as well.
Runs literally better than it looks. Instant throttle response is amazing, pulls hard in all gears. Surprising amount of torque.
I have owned for 3 years. Under my ownership, I only put 80 more miles on it to transport to my shop and it also spent past 2 yrs indoors being reworked and this is what $15k and 200 labor hours ON TOP of what was an already excellent cond 280z looks like.
No rust. Other Z's' that say 'no rust' usually only really means 'no rust that I can see'. We pulled panels off, pulled seals, gaskets, checked behind metal, underside everywhere and then went down to bare metal to primer and repaint. Even on this 4 decade Fl garage car there was rust hiding that we took care of and then engine bay, underside of hood, was sprayed w a coat of POR15 rust prevention for future durability (wheel wells were done by prev owner yrs ago and still good). EVEN GAS TANK was pulled off, inspected, and replaced w new rust free tank (attached pic of new gas tank interior). The exterior is inspired by 240z and a $225k jdm Bingo Sport Z432 that I fell in love with. So I chose to paint same factory color as the Z432 - Safari Gold #920 $5k paint job. The goal was early Fairlady Z looks with more 'modern' 280z fuel injected drivability and cold ac (not a typo- it has ICE COLD AC). So you can collect that $60k 240z and leave it in the museum and buy this 280z that is rock solid reliable cold ac, rust proofed in the engine bay and wheel wells so that it can handle even heavy downpours w peace of mind and can be daily driven out in the wild if desired. From hand stapling new replacement window squeegee trim, to replacing all the door gaskets and rear hatch gaskets, to rear sidemarker delete a la jdm / z432 style to custom fabricating z432 style crosshatch front grill, to the wood look steering wheel, sourcing earlier z wheels w brand new tires, to 24 labor hours in the wetsanding/buff job...we did it all.
Nothing left for new owner to do besides stereo. Old school vintage looks, fresh rubber new wheels and tires balanced, freshly rebuilt motor w rock solid reliability, one of the most vintage and classic jdm factory Z exterior color, AND ice cold ac. I would not hesitate to drive this Z cross country and I believe this is one of the nicest, most complete Z's for sale in the entire state of Florida.
