Description of 1977 Datsun 280Z |
I purchased this car with my son in 2021 for a full restoration. We found this very complete car with some rust (as is typical on 280Zs), but no structural rust. The car ran and drove great, but it needed full bodywork, paint, upholstery, and some cosmetic elements. It is very complete and includes all the A/C components in the dashboard (except the compressor and the front radiator condensation unit). The engine is very strong, as is the transmission, both of which are complete. All disassembled parts are labeled and bagged to simplify reassembly. We found a restoration shop (McHuggs in South Florida), and they very kindly instructed us on how to disassemble, pack, mark, and group things for easy assembly (they do outstanding work, but you have to get in line to get your car restored). I peeled off 80% of the paint by hand to avoid any type of sandblasting (not recommended for this car), but in the process, my son moved far away and eventually lost interest in the project. So, we stopped right before sending the car for bodywork and paint at McHuggs. I protected the bare metal with a special product McHuggs provided me with. I am available to answer questions since I was the person who disassembled the car. I have hundreds of pictures from before disassembly and of its current state to provide all the documentation needed to reassemble it. The engine and transmission are untouched and were working fine before removal. Engine openings are covered with silicone plugs, and the engine, transmission, and the entire car have been 100% garaged and stored in a protected environment. I just need the space and want the car to go to a good home. Great potential... Here is a video of the body (one of many) so you can get an idea of the current condition. I want you to have a very realistic understanding of the car. It is a great candidate for a full restoration or a beautiful restomod, with a strong body (though it needs work) and very complete, allowing you to choose what to keep and what to modify. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my-4ECBfQiM I am also sharing hundreds of pictures via Google Photos: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPoaGDTRvJn29D76XyBnLbm4PrOGBYaZcCRN9EuVRnKygTuSahZzP3WDJpqlvhXeg?key=VkhBOEJuZ09sa01HN0VNa3pEOG5FR1VMZzhMWDhn |
