Description of 1955 DeSoto |
Start off the new year with this classic and rare (only 1803 made) wagon. What a time warp! This is a two- owner car that spent its entire life in dry. EL PASO . EXAS . I have an old registration slip that shows the previous owner's names. A preacher bought the wagon new and sold it in 1979. At that time it was repainted in factory colors . with the interior redone to stock again in the 90's The drivetrain is all stock. It's a 291 cu. in. Hemi with a 2- barrel carb. There have been constant updates to the wagon as needed. The brakes. oses. belts. nbsp; been replaced and it just got a new battery. Engine runs thru a smooth power flight auto trans. The motor has around 100K on it and has never been rebuilt. She starts on the first turn and is very quiet. There is some initial white smoke on start-up that indicates the valve seals need attention. You could have them replaced or leave well enough alone and enjoy the ride as is. The front end is lowered about 2 inches. but it has not effected the ride. There is power steering which is very nice to have on a large car. The car holds excellent oil pressure and does not overheat. The radio needs attention. The heater blows great for snow country! The body on the wagon is incredible! Being a desert car means there is absolutely no rust; only the spare tire well shows slight surface rust. (see photo). There is a small ding in the right rear fender that could be knocked out and there are several small paint chips you see on a 35 year old car. The wagon comes complete with a highly sought after1950's "CAR PAK" luggage rack with is valued at $1500-- on today's market. This rack has been rebuilt with cypress to last for many years. and all the alum. has been polished and is held together with SS hardware. This is the rack all surfers and 50's collectors are wanting. Its street value is north of $1000. - The longboard. luggage. nd Bongo drums go with the car. This surf wagon makes people smile -- I've been driving it in Florida for 2 months. almost every day. and I'm amazed at the reception this old girl gets on the road and to the few shows I've taken her to. When it rains. just turn on the electric wipers. You could leave it just the way it is or go with some large aftermarket wheels for a whole new look. There were only 1803 of these cars made that year -- less a few dozen still survive. None left are as original and as nice as this classic-- everybody's got a Chevy or Ford wagon -- there were thousands made -- but when was the last time you parked beside a 1955 DESOTO WAGON? I will help with shipping details to anywhere in the world. I can deliver to any port in Florida for overseas buyers for a $500. 00 charge (this includes a $60- escort charge once I'm inside the gate). There is a clear Florida title on the car.
