Description of 1956 DeSoto Firedome

Vehicle Details

1956 DeSoto Classic Fin Car Runs/Driven in Hot August Nights - Firedome with a V8 330 Hemi. My decease youngest artist brother selected this car while I was in Afghanistan. This car is a Virgil Exner designed finned car. Bought as a close to original appearance restoration in 2011 for $10,000 from a family that kept the car ownership in their family until our purchase. The family restorer installed new seat covers in original vintage pattern and covered with see through plastic covers. I did 11 1/2 years deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan plus additional time in Kuwait. The car was bought to treat my family to Reno's Hot August Nights festival during my leave from my deployments. We drove the car in Hot August Night in 2011 and 2012: First picture is 2012 posting for the parade run. Approximately a total of 200 miles is all we drove the car. During 2013, in Afghanistan my insurance company changed carriers and because of limited communications my insurance was dropped. It was not until 2019 after my last deployment that the 1956 DeSoto was relicensed. During my deployments 3 family members died and my 3 car garage became full so I can no longer do my planned restoration and repairs. However, I did buy restoration and repair parts while deployed and the parts are included. Here is all I know about the car: I bought all new tail light lens when deployed and I installed them recently. The gas gauge does not work, I bought an after market sender that may work; it is included in the parts. I bought all new wheel cylinders and a master cylinder while deployed. Bled a sticking front brake from sitting over 10 years. because the brakes were stuck after sitting: Included in the parts. Radio is original AM does not work. The car is missing an antenna. The chrome Firedome insignias are in the parts included, the restorer we bought the car from did not install the insignias and did not drill two additional holes for each insignia; therefore, the restorer did not install them. I have included the barrel clips to install the emblems. Starter was dragging from sitting: Starter failed when listed so I rebuilt the starter (Brushes, back bushing and new starter solenoid and relay). I bought a new battery about a year ago. The oil and filter was just changed. The driver door glass is cracked in the upper corner. Ordered a new front glass and will provide the new glass with the parts. Body: Trunk was under coated when I purchased the car. .I did one small patch plus bought a trunk floor pan when I first bought the car included in the parts. The car does have electric fuel pumps because when bought it vapor locked. There are a couple paint chips in the front passenger door and very minor seam rust inside 3 doors. Has a very minor transmission leak. New rebuild kit in extra parts. The instrument cluster area has pitted chrome. i believe only one chrome strip is missing below the gauges; metal tape is used in its place, This is all I know about the car. Sorry for the issues with a car that set eleven years. Car is insured for 10K by Hagerty; but will sell for 9K. Hemmings would suggest about 9,700 up for good 20 foot visual with some repairs needed, Very visibly original and only minor issues as represented. Runs and drives.
