Chrysler’s incredibly potent race Hemi was included on the Coronet’s options list, mmediately placing the Hemi Coronet at the top of the food chain, ut the Hemi’s all-in power delivery and high maintenance regime made it impractical for use on the street. The race Hemi was detuned for 1966 with lower compression, milder cam and more flexible carburetion, ransforming the Hemi Coronet into a perfectly tractable yet still almost unbeatable street/strip terror that doubled as one of the best-looking muscle cars in the Mopar stable. A well preserved frame-off restoration completed 10 years ago, his 1966 Dodge Hemi Coronet 500 is one of 136 produced employing the extraordinarily powerful 426/425 HP tuned Hemi powerplant in conjunction with Chrysler’s 3-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission. It does have headers and custom exhaust. Finished in Silver Metallic with a original matching Red seat interior, he car shows just over 52,429 believed-actual miles, fact reflected in its superior presentation. Blue Streak tires give this 2-door hardtop an “Old School” sleeper appearance – at least until one gets close enough to notice those “426 Hemi” front fender badges!
