Description of 1983 Dodge Ramcharger prospector

1983 DODGE RAMCHARGER 4X4
I started this project with the idea in mind to have a mech. sound 4x4 with not much regard for what it looked like. As you can see, y plan changed. I started with a truck that had a good body with no rust issues and that had a good engine and a truck that had not been molested. When I found this truck it was bone stock with the exception of A heavy duty tow hitch that is welded to the frame.I started by doing a rebuild of the front and rear axle assy. The axles got all new bearing and seal, oth differentials where replaced along with new ring & pinion gears and bearings (gears are 4.10) The front axle is a Dana 44 with a Spartin locker and new Warn locking hubs. The rear axle is a Mopar 9.25 in. that got a new Yukon Limited Slip Diff..a new set of 4.10 Richmond gears and Timken bearings.
Both axles got all new brake components.The Truck has a 3 in. lift and new steering gear bo, rag link and tie rod ends.
The Prospector package gave it a 30 ga. gas tank, ilt Wheel and power windows and A/C. The windows did not work so both got new motors and reconditioned window regulators.All the weather stripping in the doors and windows has been replaced. The A/C works great, ut, t still has the original A/C hose lines that over time leak the refrigerant. The only leak in the system was the condenser unit and that got replaced. Since I have decided to put it on Ebay, m not doing any more on it .
The original paint was not to bad, s it could have been buffed out. But, here were so many small dings and small dents in the side of it !! So slowly my Rat 4x4 is starting to turn into not so bad to look at, xcept the factory 2 tone paint. I hated it. As you can see by looking at the be for pictures I started working on the dings ! Well heck, f Im going to paint it, dont wont to look at that blue plad interior.
So now it has Master Craft Off RoadSuspensionseat, ew seat belt, amo Carpeting, ewmatching headliner (OD in color) and a B&M floor shifter.
The engine is the 2nd motor in this truck and I was told it has less than 20k on it. I gave the eng a tune up and it runs smooth as glass. The reason they sold the thing is because they could not get it to pass a smog check in Calif. They had a mech. that did not know what he was doing by the looks of it. I registered it in Lake Havasu AZ, here I use it for getting my boat in and out of Lake Havasu and some Desert cow trailing in the winter.There is no smog checks in most of Az. so its all good for me. I think all the emissions equipment is on the truck it just needs someone to get it repaired and working again.
I included some pics of the truck as it was before I started work on it and as you can see it is a verystraighttruck and no indication that it was ever in a crash.The paint is called Hot Rod Flatzurethane, t produces a satin finish, ot totally flat, he orange is glossenamel
I need to get a new truck for work so I have decided to get one with 4 wheel drive and something my wife will drive. For some reason the Ramcharger scares her. Go figure, cant get in or out of a parking lot without someone asking me about the Dodge.
So, ts not perfict by no means, ut it runs great and off road its will go any place you point it.
