HAVE RECEIPTS.HIGH BID AT MECUM INDIANAPOLIS WAS SIX FIGURES The second-generation Dodge Charger R/T, produced from 1968 through 1970, quickly became an iconic representation of the American performance car. From the “Dukes of Hazzard” to the “Fast and Furious,” the fuselage-styled body, covered headlights, and flying-buttress fastback design made it popular in mass media, while racers themselves pushed them through the quarter-mile and on the NASCAR circuit to victory; both Dick Landy and Bobby Isaac had 1970 Chargers in competition. Beyond a redesigned grille treatment and special R/T door scoops, what made this final year unique was the availability of the new V-code 440 Six Pack engine, a mid-1969 introduction that became optional on all big-block performance Chrysler models in 1970. The stealthy black beauty being offered here is one of only 103 examples created with this new engine option and the A36 Performance Axle package; that consists of the heavy-duty A727 TorqueFlite, 3.55:1-ratio Sure Grip differential, and Hemi-type 26-inch radiator with viscous fan and shroud. With a frame-off restoration just completed in 2016, the car hosts its matching-numbers 440 Six Pack engine and TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Stopping was not a problem with the power front disc brakes; the original brake booster remains on this car. The exterior is TX9 Black with matched factory steel wheels; a flash of color comes from the red tail stripe. In addition to the one-year-only wraparound chrome front bumper, this Charger also features factory hood pins, chrome exhaust tips, and flip-top gas cap. Inside are front bucket seats, center console with shifter, faux wood-grain trim on paneling and steering wheel, podded gauges with 150 MPH speedometer, and AM radio. Included in the sale are both the owner's manual and radio manual. Showing 73,000 believed-original miles on the odometer, this car is one of a handful of V-Code Chargers built in this configuration of options and features an inspection report from Dave Wise of Mopar Motors Detroit.
