Of course, perfecting that formula takes a rare combination of time, talent and vision, and this stunning Charger 500 is one of the lucky classics backed by all three. The beneficiary of a professional, ground-up restoration, this brutal road warrior is a no-holds-barred classic that’s ready to parade the show field and dominate the stoplight. Every piece of the car has been carefully crafted with equal emphasis on performance and aesthetics. And if you’re looking for an exhilarating way to enjoy a sunny summer weekend, its legendary Hemi V8, modern Tremec 5-speed and carefully upgraded suspension are all happy to oblige! BODYWORK/TRIM After spending most of its life as a solid driver, this clean coupe was the perfect starting point for a high-dollar restoration that decked a hot Hemi big block in savage MoPar attitude. To kick things off, the car’s broad-shouldered body was massaged into tip-top condition. Once that metal was prepped and ready to spray, bright red 2-stage laid the perfect foundation for a traditional deck stripe. At that point, the car had been worked into a very nice classic that looked the part and drove the part. However, this Charger’s current owner wanted something more than “very nice”, so he contacted "Randleman, North Carolina’s Petty’s Garage":http://pettys-garage.com/g-19947-eddies-1970-dodge-charger.html and had the car freshened with a blazing coat of Viper Red 2-stage. When that brilliant profile was completely sealed and fully buffed, custom stripes were aligned around “HEMI” and “426” call-outs. And in early 2017, this Dodge rolled back onto the streets as a flashy, head-turning muscle car that tempers classic old school demeanor with a bit of new age panache! The 1970 model is arguably the pinnacle of the second-generation Charger thanks to a stunning array of visual cues implemented by the good folks at the Chrysler Corporation. This 500 complements those factory pieces with a few subtle upgrades that maximize its visual appeal. Up front, a wide chrome grille hangs quick-spinning HID headlights above amber, LED parking lamps. Above that grille, a sculpted hood seats black-trimmed turn signal indicators opposite clean glass that’s wrapped in polished stainless frames and cleared by matte stainless wipers. Below that greenhouse, a tough profile founds correct door handles and a correct driver’s mirror on bright marker lamps and bright wheel frames. And at the back of the car, a guarded bumper reflects a black valance, trick LED tail lamps and polished TTI exhaust tips. ENGINE With incredible power, and enough torque to turn wide tires into abstract asphalt art, this Dodge’s 426 cubic inch Hemi is a buff MoPar monster that easily transitions from smooth to flat out hairy! At the top of the big mill, a body-matched, Hemi-branded air cleaner centers a reusable filter element over a requisite 4-barrel carburetor, which sends a nice mix of fuel and air in to a lightweight aluminum intake. At the sides of that intake, free-breathing heads bridge the gap between mirrored valve covers, fitted with a polished breather, and cast iron exhaust manifolds. At the front of those heads, a fresh distributor sequences spark through 8mm MoPar ignition cables. And in front of that distributor, billet pulleys spin a coated alternator, an aluminum water pump and a coated AC compressor behind a chrome-capped Be Cool radiator. While this mill’s main purpose is to go straight at a very high rate of speed, it’s still very impressive to look at. Viper Red 2-stage slinks through the whole engine bay, highlighting a solid firewall and slick fenders. And overall, everything from the car’s old school Chrysler washer tank to its fresh brake booster is well planned and professionally executed. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Toss this Charger on a lift and you’ll find a Satin Black undercarriage that features a roster of top-notch components. Behind the big block, a hydraulic clutch engages a slick Tremec 5-speed, which spins a proven 8.75-inch axle that’s fitted with a requisite Sure Grip differential. At the front of the car, a factory front-clip centers factory-style power steering behind a beefy sway bar. Opposite that clip, a Reilly Motorsports Street-Lynx 4-link caps double-adjustable coil-over-shocks. At the corners of the chassis, four Wilwood calipers squeeze four vented rotors. Exhaust rolls from the aforementioned manifolds in to large-diameter pipes, which center an X-shaped crossover in front of dual Dynomax mufflers. And at the corners of the car, new Boze Daytonas spin 245/45ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS in front of 285/35ZR19 Continental ExtremeContact DWS. INTERIOR Installed in 2014, this coupe's customized cockpit is clean, well fitted and surprisingly simple. At the center of the interior, bench and bucket seats center tight, suede-trimmed hides under red stitching and small Hemi badges. In front of those thrones, a monochromatic dash hangs Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry beside Classic Auto Air conditioning, a bright Richard Petty autograph and Kenwood touch screen audio that bridges a power antenna with $7,300 worth of sound equipment. At the bottom of that dash, a custom console founds a TKO Pistol Grip Shifter on fresh carpet that's protected by red-trimmed floor mats. At the edges of that carpet, factory door panels, seat polished handles behind crank windows. The driver turns a stylish Flaming River Waterfall steering wheel. And the passengers store essentials in a custom-upholstered trunk that seats a mirrored Charger script under a big JL Audio amplifier. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION * Build receipts * Photos of the car's 2017 repaint * Component literature The resto-mod mindset is all about replacing traditional compromise with modern capability. With its fresh V8, quick-shifting 5-speed and thoroughly upgraded suspension, this Dodge annihilates any complaints regarding performance or cruising. And the addition of air conditioning, a modern sound system and custom suede trimmings merely sweetens the deal. Built for the most discerning muscle car fans on the planet, this Charger is the perfect opportunity to bask in the spoils of owning a fresh, world-class classic. And all without endless vendor calls, waiting on fab guys, hassling bankers and dealing with a disgruntled spouse. Don’t miss the chance to park this coupe in your garage!
