Description of 1942 Dodge Other Pickups |
This is my 1942 Dodge Job Rated ½ ton number matching pickup. It has been non-professionally frame-off restored and is in excellent condition. The engine is the original numbers matching Dodge 218 L6 flathead, original 3-speed transmission and original 4:11 rear end. I am so meticulous about this matching number concept that I replaced the distributor, carburetor and starter - not because they were defective but that through the years, various parts were replaced with parts that fit and not necessarily with the little regard t0 the assembly's part number. But what I did was to search factory parts manuals for the correct part by part number and then locate, rebuild and add these parts to the engine. The official Chrysler Build Record comes with your new truck as does a loose-leaf binder full of parts sheets, procedures, comments, dates, replaced parts, etc The cab interior has been all re-done including the bench seat. If you think this truck is pretty incredible up to this point, you're right! But in addition to all of this, the truck was built in January of 1942. "What's so special about that" you ask? The previous month was December 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked and the USA entered into World War 2. The Federal Government gave the automotive factories 60 days to convert their production lines from civilian automobiles and trucks, to supplying the War Effort. So on top of the above, trucks like this are 12 times more rare than the ones made in the previous year, being made for only one month! And that's not all you get! If you will look a the photo which shows the floor of the bed,you will see some mighty nice California Black Oak! The previous owner had the boards custom cut from California Black Oak log.
