Description of 1969 Dodge Charger

1969 Dodge Charter R/T Survivor with 26K Original Miles! Rare Factory AC car with R/T Package and Automatic Transmission! One of the most sought-after muscle cars of all time! "XS" code for early 1969 special build order (Charger R/T and 500). Built in Hamtrack, Michigan, and delivered to the California High Desert.

I bought this car as a present to myself after coming home from Fallujah, Iraq after the Troop Surge in 2007. I've treasured it, but have only driven it very short distances to shows in the 12 years I've owned it. Ultimately, my wife deserves a house - and this car deserves an owner who will truly appreciate it. Has current insurance with AnPac Chrome Collector Car Insurance.

Up for bid is an excellent example of a driver condition, desert survivor car. Many of the original parts are still in place on this vehicle, fully functional 50 years after it first hit the road. This Charger lived its entire life in Palmdale, California (only about 10 miles from the dealer that initially sold it) until it moved to 29 Palms Marine Corps Base in 2007, then to Texas in 2008. It's always been garaged, even in a private storage facility when at the military base.

I am the second owner of this car, it was initially procured by a woman who ordered the R/T package mated to an automatic transmission - a combination that's fairly rare by itself. The car was originally green, and she had it painted into the orange it is today in 1989, as well as have a built 383 Magnum dropped into it. The car DOES come with a R/T specified 440 engine, as well. The 440 has the AC components on it as well. At present there is no climate control in the car itself.

This car has 25,867 original miles on the odometer. I have owned it for almost 13 years, and have not put 1000 miles on it to date. I also have California registration papers from the early '90s that show it's mileage around 18000 miles. I also have the license plates and promotional papers that this car was sold with!

On the outside, you've got the fine lines that made the 68-70 Chargers so famous, and the hideaway headlamps that preserve the chrome lines of the car. The headlamp vacuum pumps work perfect! The blinker lights on the hood are still functioning, and original to the car. The leather top is immaculate, and shows no signs of wear. All chrome accents and stainless steel are in excellent shape. The car is sitting on a pair of Bridgestone Radial T/A tires in the front, and fat Mickey Thompson Indy Profile 60s in the rear, both sets on vintage Western turbine mag wheels. Power steering and power brakes with disc brakes in the front.

The interior truly needs to be seen to be appreciated. The seats, door panels, and carpet are in great shape, the headliner is perfect, and all interior lights function in perfect working condition. The tachometer was replaced by a vintage Sun tach in the early 70s. The car has a vintage tape player in the dash, but the original AM/FM radio is present with this car. A factory AC car, the climate control buttons are found above the vents. The AC components are actually on the 440 motor, and the original AC condenser is also included. In the trunk you'll find the original spare tire, the original jack, and roll of extra sound insulation, along with jack instructions on the trunk lid!

In the engine bay you'll find the professionally built 383 Magnum, MSD ignition, manifolds with dual pipes and performance mufflers. Vintage Holley M/T Valve covers, and recently tuned Edelbrock (de-badged) Performer carburetor with 1 inch spacer. When you look under the car you can see that the floors and frame appear to be rock solid with excellent detail. I was told that this 383 was bored over to a 391, and has aftermarket heads - BUT I cannot independently verify this. It would have been built decades ago, though it does have all of the vintage speed shop goodies on it. It *does* have a hot camshaft in it, and definitely can get up and go. New spark plugs, carburetor tune-up, and oil change done December 2018.

This is a 50 year old car. It's life in the desert has largely preserved it as an incredible time capsule, though has resulted in some dash cracks and occasional chip in the paint. The fuel gauge float occasionally sticks, though if kept with a full tank of gas it usually frees up and operates fine. The transmission pan's gasket has a slow drip, but shifts perfectly and always kept topped up.

This Charger is being sold where is, as is, and no warranties have been written, expressed, or implied. Funds must be received within 7 days of auction end.

This car would be a perfect candidate for a full on restoration with a 426 Hemi, due to it's low miles and great condition; which would easily make it a 6-figure car all day long. It's also cruise-in ready as is, and ready to be enjoyed by the next owner. It's been this Marine's pride and joy for some time, but I just can't bring myself to put more miles on that odometer. But this car is meant to be seen, and turns heads everywhere it goes. It's not right to keep it tucked away, and I hope she brings as much happiness to you as she did for me.
