Description of 1968 Dodge Coronet

This is probably one of the lowest mileage (and in the most original and near mint condition) 1968 Dodge Coronets in the entire country. It is a one owner car ordered with a base package (used for Taxis and Police cars). According to the window sticker. this was a Dodge Coronet Deluxe model. It comes with full documentation including- All the mint condition registrations up to 1985. the original one owner title. the owners manual and Certicard. the original bill of sale and a highly detailed owners log maintained with mileage records. repairs and personal notes from the day it was purchased to the last time he used it. According to the former owners son. the man drove it sparingly from 1968 to 1980 and then hardly at all from that point on. The last entries in the log show the car being driven sometimes only a few miles in the later years. During this entire time the car was kept out of the weather in a dry shop building with concrete floors. It had not moved since 1985. The car was purchased in 2012 and a full mechanical restoration was started. Amazingly. after not being started for 30 years. the oil was changed. the gas tank replaced and a new battery installed and it started on the first try!! It was the new owner’s intention to create a full police package replica but he did not have the heart to change the engine since it ran so perfectly and the car drove so ‘like new’. As a result. he only installed a date correct 4bbl manifold from a 1968 340 motor. a new Edelbrock 4 bbl carburetor and dual exhausts to complete the look and sound of a police car. In addition. he added a stock Mopar trans oil cooler. NOS police type hubcaps. a Mopar clutch fan. new radial tires. new shocks. all new brakes and master cylinder. new gas tank. water pump. fuel pump and any other wear item that might be impacted by sitting for 30 years. The wheels were also removed. stripped and painted gloss black before the tires were installed. The result of all of the above is a car which is a lot faster and more powerful than a stock 318 and a much bolder look than the original. The car has a 318 V-8 and it received a full tune up including wires. cap. rotor. points and plugs. We removed the valve covers to replace the gaskets and the valve train looked absolutely new. The first owner was fanatical about maintenance! The way the engine looks inside and the way it runs to this date pays tribute to his fine care from day one. This car absolutely drives like a new car!! This car runs perfectly. shifts positively and drives without rattles or creaks and handles amazingly well for its age. Everything works…. the radio. heater. window cranks. locks. wipers. fan. gauges. shifter. vents. vent windows and etc. The inside is also nearly perfect. Like police cars and taxis. this car was ordered without carpets and the plastic mats are in good shape with only a few small spots missing. The seats. door panels. glass. dash. steering wheel. interior chrome. headliner. window shades. column shifter and all other interior features including the back panel are in mint condition or near mint condition. There are no tears or wear in the seats. the door panels. dash. headliner or anything else. The steering wheel has no cracks and the trim for the wheel is perfect. People who have seen the car are simply amazed and the current owner is stopped at every gas station. store or otherwise with people who are impressed with the car. As we have repeated. this car HAS THE ORIGINAL PAINT! The only touch ups were done on areas that had worn through when the car was wet sanded and buffed. There is no rust anywhere on the car except for surface color. This includes the trunk. the engine compartment. underneath the car. the insides of the door openings. the lower quarter panels. the lower panels or anywhere else. If this car was stripped you could probably clear coat it without any indication of deterioration anywhere! The only damage at all is some minor ripples in the rear quarter panels (we left the letters off in case the new owner wanted to do paint less dent repairs) and a few small spots elsewhere. The paint is remarkably good and we were begged to enter a recent local car show with the promise that we would win the un-restored category. To drive this car is to fall in love with this car. It is a joy to operate and simple to maintain. Because it wasn’t a 2 door high performance car from the start. it has not been cut up. heavily modified or run into the ground. It was an older gentleman’s car that was pampered from the day he bought it. As a result the new owner will get a car that needs nothing unless you want to get into more motor mods or suspension updates. The recent owner had purchased a Hotchkiss full suspension kit but refrained from installing it to let the new owner make the decisions on how far to go. Also oil changed twice with two new filters. new trans fluid and filter. changed all radiator fluid and brake fluid. . The one thing remaining is the experience of driving the car. The car runs smooth with no rattles or squeaks and is surprisingly fast for a 318. Because of the low rear. it’s actually not straining at highway speeds and it gets to those speeds rapidly. We were also amazed at how well it handles steers and rides. Because it has no real wear. the suspension is tight and there is no vibration or shaking at any speed. If you have driven old cars. you know how irritating it is to have a nice looking car that goes down the road poorly. This is the polar opposite! If you drive this car. you’ll be totally convinced on everything we claim. If you are close to Middletown. Md. (or the D. C. area in general) then we encourage you to come see the car in person. As we said before. It is currently located in an inside heated garage under cover and driven only a few times a week. This is a 46 year old car this year and will qualify for collector tags in most states it is also an inexpensive car to insure. Good luck with your bidding and we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the condition or the mechanical soundness of this fine and beautiful Dodge Coronet Deluxe.
