Description of 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 361 V8 2 Dr Hardtop |
West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptionally straight and rust free and great daily driving survivor of this very rare and original Mopar - a mostly all original and stock southern California 'Black License Plate' 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 2 Door Hardtop in it's striking 'Black' color paint with a beautiful 'Pearl White' seat interior and with the car's original and highly desirable 361/265HP V8 engine, Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission and factory power steering. The 1965 Dodge street cars had a lot going for them particularly now with the rebirth of the Coronet nameplate which had last appeared in the late 1950s. The '65s had been restyled and the Coronet title was riding on a 117″ stock wheelbase with 204″ overall length. This midsize model was available in the base Coronet (formerly Dodge 330 grade), mid-range Coronet 440 trim, and the upscale top-of-the-line Coronet 500 trim. Standard equipment included: Vinyl bench seats with foam front cushion Electric windshield wipers Full carpeting Exterior bright trim around side windows & body sides Heater & Defroster Full wheel covers 500 exterior & interior trim Power Steering ($67) Music Master AM Radio ($45) 361/265HP V8 Engine This car has been owned since new by only two obviously only very careful and mature southern California owners and obviously has always been garaged from the elements and is rust and accident free with all original factory markings still in place and hence a true survivor car! The car boasts its original 361/265HP V8 engine and its original and legendary Heavy Duty (A727-B) Torqueflite transmission. The car also boasts the 500 trim level, factory power steering, its original AM Music Master radio and heater/defroster. This great driving original southern California 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 2 Door Hardtop is a rare survivor from this era and would make a wonderful daily driver for any Dodge or MOPAR enthusiast. The car was purchased new at the 'Tom Roady Dodge' dealership in Gardena, CA by it's original southern California in early 1965. It was owned by the original owner, who garaged the car at his home in Wilmington, southern California until it was purchased by only it's second southern California owner in 2008. The car had not been driven since 1992 and the car's original 361 V8 engine was rebuilt. The car still boasts it's original block, rods, crank, oil pan, push rods, valve spring retainers and rocker arms. The steering box was rebuilt, not replaced. The original upholstery was replaced with factory matching specification material and all the original parts that required to be rebuilt were rebuilt and not replaced. The master cylinder and wheel cylinders were also all rebuilt, not replaced. The muffler hanger is original. The windshield was replaced, the remaining glass is all original to the car. The chrome was re-chromed and the stainless and aluminum all polished. The car is an all complete and matching numbers original example. The 'Black California' license plate and dealer license frames from 'Tom Broady Dodge' are also original to the car. The engine runs strong and sounds absolutely magnificent and this particular car drives extraordinarily well - must be driven to be appreciated - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a run for it's money! The Red Line tires are bias ply correct original type from the 'Coker Tire Company'. The battery is an 'Autolite' original type, MOPAR was not a product name at the time. These Coronet 500's were the most exciting mid-size Dodge's of the early muscle car years. The Coronet 500 succeeded the Polara 500 as the top-of-the-line bucket seat hardtop coupe & convertible in 1965 with revamped styling. The '66's had redesigned bodyshells and styling akin to that of the new Charger fastback. A special lightweight Hemi-Charger version of the 2 Door Coronet Sedan was offered in '65. With very few remaining top-of-the-line for '65 Dodge Coronet 500's with the desirable 361 V8 with 265HP available now anywhere, and certainly even fewer original southern California & mostly all original stock examples with no history of any accidents or rust; this is an extremely unusual opportunity to own a two owner car since new and a great daily driving example of this rare and very desirable sixties MOPAR in very fine daily driving condition ready and for any classic American car or Mopar enthusiast to enjoy or collect today! |
