1970 Dodge Challenger Convertible A muscle car clone is a recreation that converts a base model sedan, coupe or convertible by adding cosmetic and performance upgrades that pay tribute to a factory or dealer optioned muscle car. For consignment an original "grocery getter" convertible with a 6-cylinder engine now presenting as a Challenger R/T tribute or clone car. A 340ci V8 4-barrel Holley Carburetor and a 4-speed manual transmission have now been put in, and badging has been changed. This car comes without the fender tag, but with the broadcast sheet, as one can see what exactly the original car was. Now, though, it's an R/T clone convertible, looking nice and running fab! Exterior Showing off in B5 Blue draping solid surfaces with well minded gaps, good chrome and the menacing looking dual headlight black egg crate grille and Challenger R/T badge up front, it's just sporty all around. The dual scooped hood has a flat black stripe running from front to back of item and is now pinned. On the sides just below the belt line is a triple stripe in shiny black with a wide middle and single flanking thin stripe on top and bottom. This stripe follows the coke bottle contour of the car. On back is a fairly rare rear taillight molding setup put on post being made onto an R/T. Also, on back is a black Go Wing sitting proudly on the trunk lid. 14-inch Mopar rally style wheels are all around and these are wrapped with Defender SRX-4 rubber radials. Noted bumpers show slight dimpling and some fade. A nice black canvas convertible top with no holes or tears and a clear rear window, is power actuated and moves up and down swimmingly. Interior Large wide molded door panels sporting some wood appliqu transition smoothly toward the interior dash, and house the handles and cranks. There is the Fratzog logo era, and these are also on the doors. The dash shows as original with padded black top and wood appliqu instrument rally cluster, giving you the full monte of gauges. The original wood rimmed steering wheel is fronting this original dash. Seats are dripping with 1970's styling high thin backs tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters front and back, although the back is a bench style with lower backs. A shout out to the seats as they present very nicely. Black carpet covers the floors and breaking this up is a nice original looking center console also in back with wood appliqu shift panel and angled PistolGrip shifter. Drivetrain Now playing...under the hood in a totally restored engine bay is a 340ci V8 with a painted orange block, chrome air filter topper, ribbed aluminum valve covers and supple like new hoses and bolt ons. This block is circa 1968 to 1973 and not original to the car. A 4-barrel Holley carb is on top and the transmission is an A833 4-speed manual, also not original to this car. Out back is an 8.75 rear axle. Headers are bolted on and these lead to a glass pack style exhaust. Undercarriage A nice overall patina but no rust (even surface rust) seen anywhere on the frame and floorpans, or rockers. On the rocker exterior surface, we can note some repair in patch form, and some surface rust on the edge of the rockers. This appears on both sides and is also behind the rear wheels on the quarter panels. Torsion bar suspension is upfront, and leaf springs on the back. Drum brakes are on all 4 corners. Drive-Ability From grocery getter to muscle car in this R/T it starts right up and goes like the wind with the 340 cubes. It handles nicely, and the interior is very roomy. Bias free panic stopping is noted, and steering is solid. A 1970 Tribute to the R/T, bigger engine, and drivetrain, and snazzy interior with as stylish as it got for 1970, and a good exterior you are advanced to the next level and can stop going for groceries, and start kicking some ass.
