Description of 1978 Ferrari Other |
Even though this is listed as a 1978 Kelmark, I do not know the actual year. It is titled as a 64 VW because the frame number matches that car. For those of you who are not familiar with Kelmark, it was a kit car manufactured for a VW frame or similarly sized frame and a number of engine configurations. This car has a 64 VW front and frame with a 78 or newer IRS transmission and rear end. The engine is a 1984 Mazda RX7 13B rotary. There are a number of new parts on the car. Headlights with integrated turn signals, Totally new EZ wiring harness, New Dolphin gauges, New brake cylinders, New radiators, New radiator fans and thermostats, New LED tail lights, New floor pan (lowered 4 inches), 4 new vent louvers for the rear deck lid, and a fairly new stereo cd player. Don't be confused there are also a number of things that need fixing. Needs new paint, new floor carpet, engine and carburetor tuning, side window rubber and channel, wind shield rubber (Pinto), fiberglass work on rear decks and filling of turn signal holes, hooking up wiper motor, wiring power antenna control, replace rear view mirrors, and I am sure a dozen other little things. A couple of things look better in the picture than they are. The paint has a number of spider cracks. I asked a local fiberglass paint shop about them and he said he would sand then prime with an epoxy primer before painting. Also the doors do not fit well at the tops. The back trunk lids need fiberglass work and paint. I have included additional pictures to show the rear trunk with louver, spider cracks and door alignment. This car is a work in progress, however, I did drive it around the block this morning. It generated a lot of smoke (rotary had not been started in 3 years) but ran, shifted and stopped fine. Pulled into the driveway and it stopped running (no spark). Hopefully, I will find the problem, but just in case I don't it is being sold as is. You can contact me with questions. A $500 deposit is required at the close of bidding with the remainder due on pick-up. The car will need to be picked-up within 4 days of sale end as we are going on an extended 3 month trip. The car is located in the Branson, Missouri area. There is no reserve price. |
