Description of 1959 Fiat Other |
This 1959 Autobianchi Bianchina Transformabile, PECIAL, s an Italian micro car that was produced from 1959 to 1961. During that time, ust 1500 of the transformabile special models were made (10,000 of the normal series II). The transformabile model has the center convertible roof with solid side pillars. It is thought that fewer than 200 of the normal transformabiles were imported into the U.S. meaning even less of the specials made it here. This is anextremelyrust free and mostly original example of this rare Autobianchi (Fiat). The engine is the original 499.5cc, -cylinder, ir-cooled unit offering 21 horsepower VS. the stock 17 horsepower 479 cc offered in the regular transformabile. It has a 4-speed manual gearbox, -wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. I had it running and drove it around the block. Transmission shifted fine, o crunches or grinds in any gears. Engine ran fine aside from slight stutter upon acceleration. To make it a reliable driver I would clean the carburetor and replace the rubber brakes lines. This car istechnicallybadged as an Autobianchi, ut it consistsentirelyof Fiat 500 running gear, nd suspension. This means it is reliable and parts are easy to come by an cheap. Now onto the history of the car. It was bought new by the first owner in Washington, n 1959. In 1962 it was sold to a close friend of the original owner and the fatherin-lawof the person I bought the car from. The car was seldom driven, nd a few years after the secondpurchaseit was parked in a dry storage inWashingtonfor many years, ntil 1991 when it changedpossessionagain to the son in-law. At this point the car was restored to running condition and driven for a short period of time and then stored properly in his garage. It sat there until Ipurchasedthe car. All I did to it to get it running and driving was put fresh (non-ethanol) gasoline in the tank, hange all fluids, ubricate the cylinders, nd put brand new tires on it (very hard to find). The car has 24,141 Original miles. It has had an exterior repaint at some point between first and second owners. The paint has a nice patina could be driven as is or fully restored to show quality. The car iscompletelyrust free, verything from drip rails to floor boards, nd rockers to quarterpanels. The entire interior is 100% original. It has very rare gold and cream interior, haracteristic of the special model. Nothing on this car has been changed, aking it very easy to restore because youdon'thave to undo someoneelse's work. The car comes with a brand new, ery high quality top for the car (Black). It also comes with some very hard to find spare parts (collected over the years). Spare parts include entire trans-axle, omes complete with differential and drive shafts, ompletecarburetor, lutch and pressure plate, riginal hub caps, s well as many othermiscellaneousodds and ends. This is a matching numbers vehicle. I also have the original Washingtonlicenceplates from 1959. This is anextremelyrare and unusual car in the transformabile model, ut next to unheard of being the special edition. Be one of the very few if not the only person to own one in the U.S. Please contact with any and all questions either througheBayor (208)-447-8600 Please bid with confidence in knowing the car has beenaccuratelyrepresented.
