September 17, 2017 - YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo]Up for bid is an amazing example of a 1950 Fiat Topolino 500C Convertible Saloon. This could be the Best example in the World if not one of the Best you can ever buy. This car has an interesting story and long term ownership with only two owners since new. It all starts with the gentleman I got this car from when as a young man who left the US and went to Parma Italy to attend Medical school in 1971. While living there during his studies he came across a mechanic's shop with two interesting cars stored in the back of the shop, he befriended the owner of the shop and when asked to see what was under the covers he was surprised to see a used Ferrari Dino and sitting next to it was this Fiat Topolino. Both cars were going to be for sale, the Dino was $ 3,000.00 and to a young man going to Medical school that was never going to happen, however the Fiat was affordable at the time so he purchased the car on the spot. The mechanic and owner of the shop said that he serviced the Fiat from day one from the original owner who had been the town Doctor, and when he passed away the Fiat was left to him in his will. The shop owner never got around to register the car and it sat there under the cover. The young Med student garaged it in Parma till his schooling was over in the late 1970's and brought it back home to the US with him. Over the years he had researched many antique car restores and chose a man who did only high end Duesenbergs. The man feel in love with the car and decided to take it on. The project took three years to complete but in the end was one of the very best Topolinos anyone ever saw. It would be almost impossible to find a better example. I have a full account of the restoration from start to finish that goes with the car. As far as the car itself goes, theres only test miles on the car and shows no signs of usage to speak of and every nut & bolt was removed and the car taken down to the chassis and done to the highest level possible including all mechanicals front to back. Everything is in top working order and it has been returned to better than showroom new. It was painted in the factory dark green color with the correct gray cloth and gray convertible roof. It has the original factory engine and drive train from new. It retains the original spare, Jack & lug wrench. |It also has the factory heater and comes with the original license plate from Italy. These were 4 forward speed cars with a 569CC 16HP 4 cylinder motors. Fiat Topolinos were made from 1936 to 1955. And for the record this car is very comfortable and anyone can fit in it as it is designed with great leg and head room even if you are 6' 5" tall.
