Description of 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback |
MARLIN BLUE, pecial paint code, UPER RARE! This is likely the only Marlin Blue 1965 Mustang you have or will ever see. It is a special paint code car ordered in Dallas DSO. The car had a sticker under the hood reading, STOLZ, rand Prairie." We were able to remove the sticker intact, nd it is included with the car. If anybody knows anything about Stolz, rand Prairie, lease share. The Chamber of Commerce down there didn't know anything about them, s they apparently closed a long time ago. Our research found an advertisement in the Dallas Morning News,advertising a July 4, 965 "Red, hite and Blue sale." The pictures on the microfiche copies are obviously black and white, ut our best assessment is that the dealer or a buyer ordered this car in this color, hich was a 1965-66 Ford color "W" code, ffered on the F100 trucks, ans and maybe even Thunderbirds, 'm told. I have seen this Marlin Blue color on afew old pickups, ut never on a Mustang. I've taken this car to MCA National shows (Mustang, K 2007) and to Mid-America Shelby and Ford Performance meet in Tulsa, any years, ncluding last month. No judge or other owner I've ever met has seen this color on a Mustang. We bought the car in central Texas in June 2005. It had been sitting about 12 years, e were told. The only rust was in one of the trunk drop-offs and the passenger toe board, hich got a small patch during restoration. We trailered it home and that was the last time it was on a trailer. It was restored by Tony Beam, n Yukon, K. The car wasfitted with an AOD, uburn Track-Lock in 3.55:1. The original motor was rebuilt. The car is a C4 auto car, ut had a 3-speed standard when I purchased it. Since then, t has been worked on by a number ofMustang guys, ncluding Melvin Little, n Sapulpa, K and John Lofton at Express Auto, n Tulsa, K. The guys at Express Autoinstalled a modern AC unit and condenser that blows cold air even on hot Oklahoma summer days. They also installed a power steering pump, GM unit that steers the car with two fingers and after driving it about 9 years without power steering this was easily the best upgrade so far (no leaks!). John Lofton also installed a SSBC power front disc brake upgrade, nother must-have for driving in traffic. They installed a 1968 Mustang seats and seat-track extensions which provide an additional 2 inches of leg room, nother really nice feature. The data plate is present and matches the inner fenders. The color code is blank and the DSO is a Dallas DSO plus 4 digits, 950, hich we can only guess what that means without a Marti reportfor 1965, ut believe it was associated with the July 4, 965 Red-White-Blue sale. The build date on the data plateis 26S (May 26, 965) so we believe it was ordered and delivered in Marlin Blue for the Fourth of July sale. The car has 14" styled steel wheels. Two tires are new or near-new, wo tires could be replaced. New owner makes that call. The original intake manifold and 2-barrel carb are included, s are two valve covers and the breather assembly. The front valance was kept to help show the original color, nd it was from the back side of the valance that the computer paint match was done. The original trunk is included. The top has been sanded, ut not primer, o it should be clear-coated or prepped andget primer. The bottom/inside was left untouched to help establish the original color. If the new owner wants to have it prepped and painted, t would probably fit much better than the Taiwan aftermarket trunk lid.I wasgoing to leave the bottom as-is, nd havetop side painted, ut changed my mind. It still has what appears to beoriginal weather stripping, racked and falling off. The windshield wipers work, ut the fluid pump is not currently pumping fluid. I don't head out in the car when it's raining, ut have been caught in a shower or two over the past decade. So many new parts were installed on this car it will be easy to overlook something. Basically, verything has been replaced, ebuilt or upgraded. The carpet in the back is sun-faded in the space behind the back seat. It is a lighter shade of blue (the correct color) and the blue carpet in the seating area is a darker, ot correct blue. The dash pad is not warped, ut it is slightly turned up on each end and the vinyl cover should be tucked back in at a couple locations. The Car-Lite glass is still on both doors, he driver's side wing window and the rear window. The windshield and passenger wing window have been replaced. There are no chips or cracks anywhere. The windows role up and down, ut I help them out by lifting while cranking. This is a non-smoker's car. The steering wheel is the wood grain design and was an ebay purchase from Bob Perkins restoration, ot cheap. The 1966 AM-8 track was another ebay purchase and is restored, t works, ot cheap. The dash was already cut for a larger radio when I got the car and it hadspeaker holes cut in the doors. Instead of welding in patches, bought the 8-track unit and speakers to install in the holes. It is not correct for a 1965 Mustang, ut accomplished the mission of dealing with the holes. The reception on the AM radio is sketchy, nd the quality of your best 8 track tapes will determine the quality of your music. It does not have any modern stereo installed. I drive this car regularly and it always draws a comment or a crowd, t is an amazing car to view. It always generates a "thumbs-up" whether its at the gas station or just driving down the road. People even jump out of their vehicles at stop lights and stop signs and take pictures of it. The exhaust system is dual exhaust, ut does not have an H-pipe installed. The car has the original exhaust manifolds. The mufflers are not too loud, ut you can hear them inside the car with the windows up and the AC blowing, t is just about right, MO. I will be happy to answer any questions and encourage serious bidders to inspect the car. Obviously, here are no warranties. The car is also for sale locally, nd if it sells before the end of the auction, he auction will obviously end early. You couldn't have somebody builda car thisniceforless than $40k, ut you can buy this one for well less than that and own the only one like it. I bought my first1965 Mustang in 1977, 289 coupe and haveowneda number of coupes and one otherfastback since then. This car is really nice, y far the nicest first generation Mustang I've owned, riven or been a passenger in. It is not a trailer queen, owever, t will get you from Tulsa, K to any destinationin America, t 20 mpg,no trailer required.
