Description of 1947 Ford Cabover |
We're probably not going to raise any eyebrows by saying that this 1947 Ford cabover pickup is probably the most high-visibility vehicle you can possibly own. If you like attention, f you have a business to promote, r maybe you just like the way it looks, his Ford is an awesomely unique Ford that actually does run and drive better than new. And we guarantee that you'll never see another one at shows. The cabover's day has come and gone thanks to safety standards and crash testing, ut you have to admit that an art-deco looking truck like this makes a pretty bold statement. Back that up with some vivid peach and orange color combination that makes it look playful, nd you have a recipe for being the center of attention anywhere you go. But this truck has the right look, ith a full-sized bed, at fenders, nd cool '40s details like the stand-alone headlights and visor over the windshield. Familiar hot-rodding tricks like shaved bumpers and door handles make it look unique and we especially like the belt molding, hich gives it an elegant look that might otherwise be missed. There's no chrome left, ut trucks weren't known for their dress-up parts anyway. The tailgate was punched full of louvers, he bed is full of handsome wood planks that have just the right amount of patina, nd the exhaust pipes peeking through the rear roll pan is a very cool touch.Climb into the tall cab and you'll find a totally custom interior that's based around that swooping center console. The view from up there is commanding, nd with custom bucket seats and a tilt column, t's actually easy to get comfortable, ven on long hauls. The original dash has been massaged a bit and is now full of Auto Meter gauges that make it easy to keep an eye on the warmed-over 5.0 underneath. The big, turdy steering wheel has an industrial feel, ut everything else is finely tailored, rom the carpets to the inserts on the center console itself. The split windshield tilts open for pleasant ventilation, nd there are both power windows and power locks at your disposal. A custom TCI shifter manages the automatic transmission and looks pretty natural in the unique center console. It's a good thing the Ford 5.0 liter V8 is famous for being reliable, ecause it's tucked up inside the nose of this truck and out of sight. It's actually a pretty neat fit in there, eplacing the original flathead V8, nd service access is decent from underneath so you won't have any trouble taking care of it. Of course, here's not much to see beyond a big radiator and color-matched expansion tank up front, ut you'll love the way it goes down the road. The front suspension is from a Lincoln and includes power rack-and-pinion steering and power disc brakes, hile the rear end is a heavy-duty 9-inch. The aforementioned transmission is an AOD 4-speed automatic overdrive, aking this cool hauler a great highway cruiser as well. The fabricated frame and airbag suspension allows it to lay frame at shows and still cruise easily on regular streets and there's plenty of room for the Flowmaster dual exhaust system. Big Billet Specialties wheels fill the rounded fenders and wear 235/40/18 BFGoodrich radials.A unique truck that definitely gets more than its fair share of attention, his is the kind of rod that's perfect for the dare-to-be-different crowd.
