Description of 1968 Ford Other Custom 500 |
1968 FORD CUSTOM 500: 4-door sedan, 02 V8 2V, S, MX automatic transmission. I bought this car in June 1970 from Colonial Lincoln-Mercury in Atlanta, A. It was manufactured in March 1968. I have the original bill of sale and the original 1970 title. I have been the only owner from 1970 and its location has been at my Atlanta residence the entire 45 years of my ownership. The current and accurate mileage is 190,167 miles. The entire body is in excellent condition. Other than a small rust area at the tip of the outer left rear wheel well, o collision damage has ever occurred over this 45-year period. The basic body integrity is what it was at the time of manufacture in 1968. There are, f course, ome patches of rust on the underside of sheet metal elsewhere. The engine, ransmission, nd drivetrain have never needed repair and are original to the car. They remain in very good condition. It shifts perfectly. The engine remains in mechanically very good condition. A thorough tune-up and carburetor overhaul are needed. Although the carburetor is original to the car and has never been rebuilt, have a professionally rebuilt carburetor (new in box) included with the car. My sister bought it for her l968 Ford Galaxie with the identical engine and carburetor as my car but which she never had installed. I have the original box with full description and instructions (see picture). I am also including a 900+ page Ford Service Shop Manual (see picture) that I bought from Ford in 1970. All glass (door windows, indshield, ear window) is original. No cracks and no breaks. Doors and windows work normally as they did when I bought the car in 1970. Trunk and hood latch as they did originally. Virtually all body chrome remains intact. There is rust on the rear bumper; the front bumper is fine. All 4 wheel covers are undamaged and are on the tire rims. Rims and hubs are original to the car from its manufacture. The car does need updating attention. Both sections of the exhaust pipe (in front and behind the muffler) need replacement, lthough the muffler seems OK. I have numerous patches on the exhaust pipe. The exterior paint has deteriorated and the black vinyl top is very worn. Most weather stripping needs replacement, s does the floor covering. Although there is AC, he compressor needs repair and the small vacuum motors for opening and closing ventilating doors need replacement. Original rear upholstery remains excellent and attractive, lthough the fiber deck beneath the rear window needs replacement. Remarkably, he original headliner remains in good condition. The dome light requires only a new plastic lens. The front upholstey needs repair and the padded dash has several deep cracks. Some years ago I added a section of galvanized sheet metal to the flooring beneath the front passenger compartment. Through the years I have done regular routine maintenance and light repair: within the past 36 months new repairs include a new master brake cylinder, fuel pump, starter motor and very recently 2 new front tires. I have now reached an age where I can no longer take on these responsibilities. For the past decade the car has had very limited use. I have, owever, egularly run it both at extended idle and short trips in the immediate vicinity of my home to maintain proper engine temperature, s well as engine/drivetrain lubrication. Although the brakes seem adequate, o brake work has been done in recent years (other than the master brake cylinder mentioned earlier). The brakes should be thoroughly inspected after purchase before any substantial driving is done. Over the years I have kept many used parts that were replaced during repair. I would pack these and include them with the car if buyer were interested. This car is best intended for bidders who would find the Ford Custom 500 worthy of cosmetic and updated improvements and to be used as a large, ttractive car for family and work convenience. The car came with a full set of seat belts installed. It was one of the last large Fords made with a vertical gas tank situated behind the rear axle and well protected from rear end damage. For a successfulbidder I urge transport delivery of this car to insure no damage and allow for proper inspection of the braking system or any other vital system thought necessary I have not covered. If there are questions, lease email me through eBay and I will reply and include my phone number. Payment: full payment within 5 business days of auction close. I will pay $30 toward wire transfer to my bank. No transfer of vehicle without full payment clearing my bank. The car is being sold "AS IS" with no warranties stated or implied. The winning bidder is responsible for all arrangements and costs for receiving the car. Depending on the winning bid, will consider aiding in the transport cost of the car's delivery. United States bidders only. PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT AN OBLIGATION TO PAY SHOULD YOU WIN. |
