Description of 1962 Ford Thunderbird |
This stunning T-bird convertible has had a recent nut & bolt restoration to concours specs and is meant for the discriminating enthusiast looking for one of the best examples available. It's fascinating history, are combination of colors, ptions, nd having just achieved National 1st Place Senior status make it a highly desirable example of a popular classic. This is not your average T-bird! It started out as an original 45,000 barn find stored in a sealed garage since the 1970's. It underwent an extensive 2 year restoration to concours specs with the expressed purpose of creating a National 1st Place Winner that could still be driven reliably and enjoyed on the road. That goal was achieved this year when the car achieved Senior status at the ITC National Meet in at Waukesha, I. Highlights of the formal judging included perfect scores in operations, runk compartment, ngine compartment, nd interior resulting in 343 total points out of a possible 350! Minor detailing of the undercarriage could conceivably bring this car to a perfect score, ut since I believe that it is more desirable that a car of this caliber be capable of being driven and don't believe in static "trailer queens", will leave that option up to the next owner. Details of the fully documented ground up restoration include a list of items too lengthy to itemize, ut there is well over $30,000 invested in parts alone. This does not include any labor as most of the work was done by me personally. Nearly everything on the car has been removed, estored & detailed or replaced as needed using the original factory assembly manuals and VTCI Original Factory Specifications as a guide. This car has basically been remanufactured! Original equipment includes the standard 390 V-8 and Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Factory options include leather seats, /C, ower windows, indshield washers, inted glass, eat belts, ush button radio and outside rear view mirror. This car also has the sport side trim which includes the often omitted 4 short segments between the rear fenders ornaments! The engine and transmission have been professionally rebuilt and detailed right down to the original hoses and clamps, nd accurate placement of the authentic wiring retainers and decals. All colors and details are as original. All operational components such as starter, enerator, uel pump, nd water pump are brand new. Needless to say, he car runs and drive flawlessly. The interior features correct colors and 100% authentic detailing with new leather seats, arpet, nd door panels. All chrome components have been replated or replaced. Other bright trim has been meticulously restored and hand buffedto a chrome-like finish. All ribbed trim panels have been restored to perfection. All accessories, ncluding the power windows and A/C, ave been rebuilt and are fully operational. Even the flashing parking brake warning lamp and clock operate as designed. The original AM radio works perfectly and appears 100% original but features a hidden and completely removable FM chip! Very slick! All trunk compartment and original convertible top components have been restored and detailed to concours standards. All top functions work perfectly in both directions. All weatherstripping has been replaced with new. The original jack is present and correctly mounted in the rear fender. The exterior body has been stripped to bare metal and professionally restored and refinished in the extremely rare and classyoriginal Sandshell Beige color by noted Ford specialist Chris Robinson of Ryan, A. All exterior chrome has been replated and other bright work has been hand restored or replaced with new. All bulbs and lenses are new and all electrical components work perfectly. The windshield is new and all other glass original to the caris inexcellent condition. The dealer installed Roadster equipment is authentic and correct. The 4 rims are authentic 48 spoke Kelsey Hayes wires and feature their original '62 solid spinners. The tires are Coker Classics radials and have less than 200 miles on them. The spare tire and its standard steel rim are original from the 1970's and have not been restored or replaced. The tonneau fits perfectly and features the correct hardware and trim. The car will come with its original gate release stating the factory installed equipment, riginal prices and original shipment details. I welcome overseas bidders and will work with export agents as requested. Delivery on an open trailer is possible for an agreed upon price. Otherwise I will be happy to assist your driver with loading. In summary, his beautiful vehicle is one of a kind and has been rebuilt to the most exacting standards with emphasis on condition and authenticity. It should be seen to be fully appreciated, ut the fact of it being a proven National Concours 1st place winner speaks to the quality and detail of the restoration. This beautiful example with its super rare exterior color and matching interior is a show stopper of a quality meant for the discriminating enthusiast who demands to stand head and shoulders above the crowd and compete on a National level, et can still drive and enjoy an awesome example of 60's personal luxury.
