Description of 1940 Ford Other Deluxe Tudor Sedan |
This listing if for a super straight, exceptionally solid and nearly rust free1940 Ford Deluxe Tudor sedan. This is an original black license plate California car that made it's way to western Montana many years ago before winding up in Belgrade Montana about 10 years ago.I recently bought it in a somewhat dis-assembled state from a friend's estate. I installed the right door, ll 4 fenders, he hood and grille and several smaller items to make it as you see it here. This gem has no rusted out spots anywhere in any of the front floors, owl panels, oors, runk floors, ear fender wellsor even the tool tray at the back of the trunk. This classicdoes have a few smallrust holes at the bottomof both of the quarter panels right behind the doors and I have shown that damage in a pair of the photos of this listing. The only other rusted out spots in this entire car are on the bottom of the rear window garnish molding which will not be difficultto repair or replace. All four of the fenders are absolutely wonderful and look as if they have never had any serious damage or repairs done to them. They were primered many years ago.The right frontfender inner panel is excellent but the left frontfender inner panel will need some work. The hood is in super conditionbut both of the grille halves haveproblemsand will ultimately need to bereplaced. No idiot has ever jumped on or caved in the roof as way too often happens so that is at least a thousand dollar bonus whether you do your sheet metal work or hire it done. The bottom center of the firewall has been trimmed a bit as you can see in two of the photos of this listing. The driveshaft tunnel under the front seat was replaced with thinner galvanized sheet metal a long time ago.I do not have the removable front floor board panel. The doors are complete with all of the latches, ocks, ctuators, indow glasses and window regulators. All of the originalstainless trim is present except for short piece on the cowl on the driver's side. All of the stainless is in nearly perfect condition with the exception of the piece on the left side of the hood that has a very minor ding in it that will not be difficult to remove. All of the interior windshield, oor window, ear side window and rear window garnish moldings are included. They are all in very nice original condition but the rear window molding has some small rust holes through the bottom of it due to water leaking in around the rear window glasses through the years. The original dash was painted maroon a long time ago. The speaker grille is good except for a piece of the bar on the upper right that is broken off. Both of the hard to find ashtrays are included along with the complicated mechanism that they move in and out on.Both of the original tail lamp assemblies are included. The headlamp bezels are the replacement cast aluminum typeand are not originals. I have none of the front or rear bumper brackets or face bars for this car. The original running boards and brackets are in very nice rust free condition but all of the rubber covering was removed a long time ago.The original fuel tank is included as is the original filler spout but the cap is missing so someone stuffed a rag in the opening a long time ago. The fuel tank looks fine from the outside and was painted silver many yearsago. The original trunk lid is in excellent condition and appears to never had any serious damage through the years. It fits the opening well and the mechanism that holds it open is still working as it should. The front suspension is basically stock except for disk brakes that have been substituted for the original drum brakes. The steering gear is newer and I have no idea what vehicle it is from. The rear axle appears to be a later Ford 9" unit that is mounted to the original Ford wishbones and suspended with the original Ford transverse leaf spring. All four of the hubs and wheelshave the later Ford 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. There is no engine, ransmission, radiator, teering columnof dash gaugesincluded with this car.I believe the later motor mounts welded to thefront of the frame rails are for a 429 or 460 Ford engine. The previous owner planned to install a 460 Ford engine in this car but was more of a dreamer rather than a builder. I do havea complete independent front suspension kit available that was built byChassis Engineering in West Branch Iowa a just a few years ago. That kit adaptstheFord Pinto front suspension and rack and pinion steering parts to this car.All of the parts are new and unused and I will give the new owner of this car the option of buying that kitfor 2/3 of what itcurrently retails for.I also have a new and unused suspension kit from Chassis Engineering that can be used to mount a newer rear axle assembly using a pair of leaf springs. The new owner of this car will also have the option of buying that kit for 2/3 of the current retail price before I list it here on eBay after this car sells. When I bought this car, here was not title included with it. When someone welded the newer engine mounts to the front of the frame rails a long time ago, hey covered up the last two digits (09) of the serial number. I removed the body mounting bolts and lifted up the rear of the body with a hoist and fount the serial number stamped on the left rear frame rail where it goes up over the rear axle.I found a very understanding Montana Highway Patrol officer that verified that number so that I could apply for a good Montana title which I did and now have for this car.Whoever buys this car will most likely remove the engine mounts anyway which will expose the last two digits of the serial number that is stamped on the top of the left front frame near the steering gear. I have a lot more detailed photos of this car that I can email to you if you call me and give me your regular email address. Please do not ask or expect me to email them to you here through the eBay email system. I can only send 5 per email, hey load slowly and the size of the photos is drastically reduced by that process. Please check this listing often because I will be adding more information during the duration of this listing. Thanks a lot, ob Woodburn - phone 406-799-1847 in Bozeman Montana USA |
