Description of 1940 Ford Other Ford Deluxe Coupe |
This 1940 Coupe has interesting history. Owned as a high school student, ike Bamber of Escondido, alifornia built his hotrod street car. Boasting to be the fastest car in Escondido, he car found it's way to the drag strip... this was 1955. After proving to be a main contender, ode Martin of Dragmaster, ffered Mike a sponsorship. The car from 1955 until 1959. During that period, ike used the car as his driver. Rather than cut up the original hood and rear fenders, ike found replacements and stashed the "original to car" metal. Along with front license plate and bumper assembly, he hood and fenders are still with the car and included in the sale. The car ran a Latham Blower on the Chevrolet small block. The transmission is a 37 top-shift Cadillac/LaSalle and the rear is a Chev positraction. Mike would leave the line in second gear and shift to third. He ran constant 13's and 115 MPH... very fast for a full fendered car in the 50's. The front axle is a 36 tube with drilled backing plates. Mile raced for Dragmaster until 1959 when the car was retired. The engine went into 1941 Willy Pickup.. after a year of racing the all-steel unit, he truck was rebuilt as the famous "Silver Dollar" chopped and channeled A/Gas Supercharged Willys. Mike drove the car until retiring in 1963. Both cars, he 40 Ford and the Willys truck remained in storage until 2000. The 40 was put back into running condition with a Hilborn injected Small Block Chevy. The rest of the car is "as run" in 1959 condition. The interior is Tijuana Rick's and cost Mike $55.00.. There's a Orange County Drag Strip timing card in the registration holder clipped to the visor. The car still has the early California pink slip in Mike's name. The car is a riot to drive. Great burn-outs.
