Description of 1966 Ford Mustang |
SPECTACULAR K CODE FASTBACK, RIGINAL CANDYAPPLE CAR, ERY HIGH QUALITY RESTO Yes, t's a real K-code. That is your first question, ight? This 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 is definitely the real deal and is the beneficiary of a recent, igh-quality rotisserie restoration that faithfully restored it to show quality condition with tons of concours correct, OS, nd restored original parts. There's not much that is a better than a K-code fastback from the early Pony cars. With a car like this, ou simply don't cut corners and you don't try to put your own personal touches on the restoration. As a result, t was restored with an eye towards authenticity, ith some rather big checks being written to ensure that it was done right. The bright Candyapple Red paint is this car's original color (is there any color that looks better on a fastback?) and the final finish today is show-quality in every way. Gaps are excellent. It's not a GT and wasn't dressed up like one during the restoration, ut it does have that all-important '289 High Performance' badge on the front fenders, nd that's really all you need to see when looking this car over at a glance. Up close, he detailing is exquisite and it appears that nothing was overlooked, rom the shiny chrome bumpers to the insanely complex quarter panel vents. This K-code fastback has the right look inside. You can see that the original buyer was serious about his performance, s there are no extras here, ust a 4-speed in between the seats. It's all beautifully restored, f course, nd things like the steering wheel and door panels are crisply detailed and in new condition. All the gauges were rebuilt and look fantastic, nd it shows just 80 miles since the full restoration was completed. The original AM radio is still in the center of the dash, lthough it has been cleverly upgraded to AM/FM/MP3 specifications, hich is a very nice feature if you like to drive. The upholstery is beautifully installed and the fold-down rear set fits extremely well. The trunk is detailed for show and includes a proper plaid mat and full-sized spare with its own matching cover. The motor has the correct date-codes. It also has date-code-correct heads, ntake manifold, istributor, and water pump and wears Ford Blue with chrome valve covers and air cleaner for a trophy-winning look. Inside, t's been upgraded with forged aluminum pistons, ut everything else is stock to give it that wonderful mechanical lifter soundtrack. A Pertronix ignition system invisibly improves starting and throttle response and all the factory markings were reproduced. The 4-speed shifts beautifully, lutch take-up is smooth, nd with 3.50 gears in back, t's plenty punchy around town but still cruises reasonably at highway speeds. It's extremely well detailed underneath, ith a reproduction exhaust system, ront disc brakes, nd a 9-inch rear end with a proper red oxide center section. 14-inch styled steel wheels are always the right choice and carry slightly staggered 205/70/14 front and 215/70/14 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. This is a very exciting car in every way that matters. It's correct, ocumented, nd backed up with restoration receipts and photos, aking it one of the very best K-code fastbacks most people have ever seen. Call Trey at 817-703-4720 for more information. Facts and Info about the K code Mustang
The "K" represents the engine code on the VIN number of these Mustangs. Each K-Code Mustang had a special badge on their front fenders that read "HIGH PERFORMANCE 289" . No doubt about it, he K-Code Mustang was all performance. In fact, K-Code Mustangs were not available with air conditioning or power steering. And you couldn't buy one with an automatic transmission until the 1966 model year. Prior to that K-Code Mustangs were 4-speed only. The car also came with a shorter warranty than the typical Mustang. K-Code buyers were looking at a 3 month or 4,000 mile warranty instead of the standard 12 month or 12,000 miles plan. I guess the folks at Ford figured most people who purchased the car would put it through its paces on a daily basis, nd they were probably right. People often ask how the K-Code engine was different from the other D,C, nd A code 289 engines featured in 1965-1967 Mustangs.
Well, nce again, hink performance. For starters this engine featured upgraded pistons, ylinder heads, arburetor, ifter heads, nd connecting rods. In addition, ne look under the hood and you'd notice the chrome air cleaner and valve covers. Oh, nd we can't forget the "289 High Performance" lettering atop the air cleaner. With an estimated 271 HP at its disposal, t was easy to tell this car from other 289 powered Mustangs of the day. But wait, here's more. The differences didn't stop there. In fact, he entire driveline of these cars was designed for performance. We're talking about a high-performance clutch, drive shaft, ear differential, nd suspension. It's no wonder Shelby put the engine in his racing performance GT350 Mustangs. In fact, he first Shelby Mustang, he Shelby GT350R featured a modified K-Code engine. These days collectors of the Ford Mustang look back fondly on the K-Code. As such, hey are highly sought after. Unfortunately only a limited number of these engines were produced between 1963-1967, nd even fewer K-code Mustangs. In fact, nly 343 K- code fastbacks were produced in 1966. Overall .75% of Mustangs were K codes. If you own one, ou own a valued piece of history.
