Description of 1984 Ford Mustang GT350 |
This 1984 GT350 is history in sheetmetal: if the 1984 5.0 HO hadn't arrived on the market when it did, we probably wouldn't have the amazing late-model Mustangs in showrooms today. And because of its limited-production status and famous GT350 emblems, someone took exceptionally good care of this fastback, because it shows just 22,157 original miles and comes from single-family ownership. If there's ever a late-model Mustang that's a future collectable, this is probably it.The face is familiar, the profile timeless, and the look unmistakable. THIS is the 5.0 Mustang that started it all 25 years ago. Only 2604 were built with the 5.0 and a 5-speed manual transmission, making it a rare breed, and the 5.0 Mustang being what it is, not many have survived. This one has not only survived, but has been cherished and protected, so it remains in remarkable condition. Paint and bodywork are exceptionally good, simply because someone was cleaning and polishing the paint on a regular basis, and as a result it looks factory fresh. The white paint and burgundy stripes are a combination that will always look good, so this is one product of the early '80s that will survive the test of time. And the GT350 decals are a nice nod to Carroll Shelby and part of the original package. Note that the bumpers, rub strips, and all the trim is in excellent condition, a testament to the car this car has received from day one.The red interior will transport you back to 1984 all over again, and it's just as nice as the exterior. Those ultra-supportive buckets are factory-issue, showing virtually zero wear or fading, which is not so easy to achieve in a car with red upholstery and T-tops. The original instruments are in place and give you a very good reading on what's going on under the hood, although the 85 MPH speedometer is a bit of a joke; this car could probably peg it in the quarter-mile. The funky steering wheel is a relic of the 1980s, but that's how it came so that's how it remains, and you can't complain about having built-in buttons for the cruise control, one of the first such applications. The original radio still handles entertainment, and this pony comes loaded with features like power windows and locks, A/C, a tilt steering column, and a rear defroster, all of which appear to be working properly. The T-tops are a great addition and stow neatly in the hatch area, which still has the hold-down straps and cargo cover. Nice! The familiar 5.0 has been around since the late '60s, but it was in 1984 that Ford really got serious about bring performance back to the Mustang. With a 4-barrel carburetor and a fairly aggressive camshaft, it delivers that bottomless feeling of torque that made the 5.0 famous. Throttle response is snappy and that twin-snorkel air cleaner with aluminum lid is a dead giveaway that there's an HO motor living underneath. It's quite original, right down to the finned valve covers, making this a survivor worthy of long-term preservation. It also drives great and delivers unbeatable reliability that was part of the 5.0 legend. The 5-speed manual shifts crisply and with 3.08 gears out back, it's reasonably quick around town while being a superlative highway cruiser. The chassis is shockingly clean, and it's so authentic that it's still sitting on its original TRX wheels with correct Michelin TRX tires that were unique to this car.For the Mustang enthusiast with a sense of history, this GT350 is a special car. You'll probably never find a nicer one and it's not so perfect that you'll be afraid to take it out and use it as intended now and then. Call today! |
