1928 Ford Tudor Custom - Introduced to the public in late 1927 as a “New Ford Car,” the Ford Model A could trace its roots all the way back to the establishment of the Ford Motor Company in 1903. Actually, the first car produced by the developing auto manufacturer was labeled the Model A. Henry Ford would work his way through a series of letter designations for his automotive creations before settling on the successful formula that would become the Model T. In the years that followed, as America’s roads and driveways filled with Model T’s, Henry Ford would remain reluctant to significantly tamper with his beloved car’s design. It was only in the face of plummeting sales by the mid 1920’s, the result of a buying public that sought the modern upgrades offered by Ford’s competitors, that Ford finally relented. In an unusual business move, Ford halted production of the Model T in May of 1927, shutting down the entire production operation for 6 months to allow for retooling and final development of the new Model A Ford. Beginning with its excellent sheetmetal suggestive of a lifetime spent in favorable climates, this Tudor features cool body mods including a five-inch top chop and filled roof. Power is provided by a built and nicely detailed 454 Chevy big-block mated to a floor-shifted automatic transmission. and topped by a Weiand intake, four barrel carb, finned valve covers, and an oval open-element air cleaner. The exhaust headers are works of art in their own right and fed the proper dual exhaust system. An aluminum radiator and 12 volt alternator provide cruising ease and reliability, while the rare and visibly striking set of '58 Buick finned and vented brake drum brakes bring "Lucky" to a halt. Inside, bucket seats, 1950s/60s two tone upholstery, period style pinstripe accents and gambling motifs, Stewart-Warner gauges, and a column-mounted tach complete the picture. Riding on period-style wide whitewalls surrounding Burgundy-finished wire wheels mounting bright hubcaps, "Lucky" marks an outstanding steel-bodied hot rod paying homage to the past with modern construction quality to boot. This beauty has seen only 900 miles of asphalt since completion. Maintaining an inventory of 30-40 vehicles has worked well for my dealership during our 12+ years of selling on eBay.
