1978 Ford F-250 4x4 Super Cab ~Very Rare Ranger XLT Super Cab 4 Wheel Drive F-250~Dana 60 Front Axle and Dana 60 Rear Axle~400M V8 Motor with 4:10 Gear Ratio~Dark Jade Metallic~Trailer Special NO RESERVE For Sale on a NO RESERVE auction is a fantastic 1978 Ford F-250 Super Cab 4 Wheel Drive. This truck has spent its life in the mild climate of California's popular wine country. This is a very rare find with first 3 digits of the vin being "x26"; this means a F-250 Super Cab equipped with 4 wheel drive. Just how rare is that? Out of the 203,488 F-250's built in 1978 only 13,059 were Super Cab 4x4 that comes out to ONLY 6%, this does not mention the 1.1 Million other Ford F series models built in 1978. It is safe to say this is one of the most rare models Ford had to offer in the late 70's. To add to the rarity this truck also comes as a "Trailer Special" and with the top of line Ranger XLT trim Package as well as it's a factory A/C model. The 351 Cleveland was a legendary motor for Ford and in the late 70's had evolved into the 400m motor. The 400m was the largest motoravailablefor the Ford 4x4 models in 1978. This truck has the original 400m motor with a MSD ignition coil, MSDDistributor, and a set of headers into a Flowmaster exhaust. Underneath are Dana 60's in the Front and the Back with a 4:10 gear ratio, you can pull your camper trailer and your family up a mountain with no problem if you needed to. This truck has Monroe shocks and is sitting on 16 inch period correct "Mag" wheels with 33 inch tires. You really don't find many 1978 F-250 Super Cab 4x4s very often let alone one in this unmolested, unmodified, clean condition. Cosmetically this truck is in fantastic shape for a 38 year old truck. The Dark Jade metallic paint accented with Cream looks stunning. The truck went through a mild restoration roughly 15 years ago and had been repainted. There are a few dings here and there a paint chip by the driver window andwindshield. There is some minor areas of rust by the top of the passenger door and roofline. The Ranger Chrome Grill is in fantastic shape, the truck is has all of the original emblems and they shine nicely. The interior is in good shape; the Ranger XLT wood door panels and glove box still look good and are not coming off, there is 1 small sun crack on the top of the dash. All the gauges are functional. Heater works, the factory A/C has been removed. The factory radio has been updated with a Alpine CD/ Aux with built in speaker roof unit. The Carpet is in fair shape there are a few spots, small tears and a split by the 4x4 gear lever. The seats look great with no rips or tears. This truck is not a flawless show truck but instead a a very good survivor that can be used and enjoyed for years to come. Mechanically this truck is in a great original shape. It has beenregularlymaintained and said to have 154k actual miles. The 400m motor starts right up everytime. It runs great and the headers and Flowmaster duals give it a healthier sound but nothing obnoxious. The Ford 3 speedtransmissionshifts smoothly in all gears and reverse. 4 wheel drive works, there is Dana 60 axles in the Front and Back. The truck has Monroe shocks. There are factory disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear and they brake well. Overall this is a nice running and driving truck everything works.
