Here at Gateway Classic Cars of Houston we have this very beautiful numbers matching 1956 Ford Thunderbird. If you have never owned a Thunderbird before I will give you a little history lesson on these wonderful cars. The production of the Thunderbird started in 1955 and came out with their first gen T-Bird. It was meant to be a very cool sporty 2 seat convertible. Unlike the Corvettes, it was not being advertised as a sports car but a much rather luxurious personal car. Ford did a great job producing such a fine car that was in competition with the Chevrolet. This one that we have here is a rare tuxedo package Thunderbird. This one comes with the black soft top and matching paint hardtop. What makes this car even more valuable is the condition of the hard top and soft top. You won't find these that often in its condition. The '56 Thunderbird had small upgrades compared to the first '55 model. The spare tire was located in the trunk of the '55 T-bird and the '56 model started adding the Continental Kit in the back which adds more of the luxurious look to it. Ford also added the portholes on the fiber glass top; it was actually an option that the buyer could add back in the days. Now, let's talk about what the Thunderbird has to offer, considering the age of the car and since the restoration. Its packing a 312 CID V8 mated to Ford O Matic 2 speed automatic transmission. Both engine and transmission has been restored and rebuilt back in 2008 before it was stored in climate controlled storage, brand new brakes, shocks, tires and Am/Fm radio. Again, this is very well taken care of 1956 Thunderbird with striking white glossy paint that could be yours today.
